Scrappy Crossroads sew along by Lori Holt

Hi again ! Today I  want to share a new project that I´m working on and it´s sure you have heard lately. First I will tell you I was wishing to get my package with all these nice fabrics with a vintage  and  childhood touch. I spent time chosing them so it was a pleasure when I could   see them in my hands.
They are  from the collections : Toy Box, 1930´s Classics, Pam Kitty Picnic, Aunt Grace Miniatures, Old New Fabric Collection 30', Everything but the kitchen sink X, Storybook Playtime, Vintage Happy....... So with these beauties I  took my  Big Shot and started to cut .....

My plans were different at the begining but then I found the sew along Scrappy Crossroads  by Lori Holt  ( Bee in my bonnet )  for this summer .If you are a vintage girl and love patchwork, you know her , sure. That is my case, I love Lori Holt work and like instagramer  I went to there I learnt about her scrappy crossroads  tutorial soooo easy and perfect for my loved fabrics.

It looks like the block is being done for lot of quilters and you can find vartiations because the fabric combination.
So I took my Sizzix Bigz XL 25" Die - Squares, 2" Finished (2 1/2" Unfinished  just the size that the tuto calls,  and  cut a bunch of them. You will need too  4.5" squares , mine are white.

I spent some time playing with my squares on a mini design board ( you can find Lori ´s tutorial in her blog if you like )  and sew quickly.

Here it is my first block finished. I plan doing three more and complete a quilt.

I´m in love with this scrappy block and my die that let me to save time.

Hola de nuevo, Hoy quiero compartir con vosotros un nuevo proyccto que tengo en curso y que seguro habéis oído hablar de él.

Pero primero os contaré que estaba deseando recibir mi paquete con nuevas telas con un aire vintage e infantile.La verdad es que estuve un montón de tiempo eligiendo las que quería y ahora que las tengo ha merecido la pena.

En un principio los planes eran otros pero entonces encontré este bloque en el blog de 

Lori Holt  ( Bee in my bonnet ) que está haciendo para este verano. Si eres una chica con estilo vintage y te gusta el patchwork , entonces  la conoces seguro. A mí me encanta el trabajo que hace y como instagramer fui a su cuenta y ver cómo era el tutorial, facilísimo y perfecto para las telas que había recibido.

Al parecer el bloque está siendo hecho por un montón de quilters y puedes encontrar variaciones en función de las telas escogidas.

Así que cogí mi troquel  

Sizzix Bigz XL 25" Die - Squares, 2" Finished (2 1/2" Unfinished  ,justo el tamaño requerido de cuadrados y corté un montón. También necesitarás cuadrados de 4.5” , en mi caso en tela blanca.

Estuve un rato probando mis cuadrados en mi tablero de diseño ( puedes encontrar el tutorial en el blog de Lori ) y lo cosí rápidamente.

En la última foto podéis verlo acabado. Haré tres más para completar una colcha. Me encanta este bloque y mi troquel que me permite ahorrar  bastante tiempo.

Plastic pattern for hexagons

Today I come back to hexagons using the  Sizzix dies but with a trick for making nice hexagons with a  drawing centered. 
I´m designing a blue quilt in a traditional style  with these pieces , yo- yos   that I told you some weeks ago and something more that I will tell you later.  So  I wanted some of my hexagons had a nice  finished design.

Fabric with a nice pattern for hexagons

The only thing I had to do it was to cut out the plastic with the hexagon die ( depends of the size you need for it you can change the die  ) with the Big Shot Machine, selected  the pattern  I liked for my hexagon and drew a line around of  the plastic hexagon. You can recicle the plastic from the boxes dies as I did.  Next , cut out with scissors..........

...... you can make beautiful hexagons deppending of what you chosen. These are mine, really nice , aren´t they ?

I know this is a slower method for cutting the fabric but I think it ´s great if your quilt needs these kind of hexagons with a draw in the middle.

Hoy  vuelvo de nuevo a los hexágonos usando los troqueles de Sizzix pero con un truco para conseguir que tengan un bonito diseño con estampados centrados.
Estoy diseñando un quilt  en azules al estilo tradicional  utilizando estos hexágonos,  los yo – yos que te conté hace unas semanas y alguna cosa más que verás más adelante.

Telas con un bonito estampado para centrar en los hexágonos.

La única cosa que tuve que hacer fue cortar las formas geométricas   en plástico  que puedes adquirir en planchas en la papelería o reciclando la funda en la que vienen los troqueles , como fue mi caso.

Una vez cortado el hexágono  con la máquina Big Shot , seleccioné el dibujo  , dibujé una línea alrededor y corté con las tijeras.

De esta manera puedes hacer preciosos hexágonos según el diseño elegido. Los míos creo que  han quedado estupendos ¿ verdad ?

Sé que esta es una manera más lenta de cortar la tela pero genial si tu quilt necesita este tipo de montaje con el dibujo centrado.

back from quilt market!



Last week I was in Pittsburgh at International Quilt Market. For those that don't know, it's a bi-annual industry show for quilting. It's where you see all the new fabrics and gadgets ahead of release.

So, what kinds of fabrics will you be buying later this year?

The biggest trend was metallic ink - it was all over the place. So, for those of you that aren't a big fan that might be a disappointment. Personally, I love a bit of sparkle so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on all of these collections as they come out, so keep your eyes open for them!....

Arizona by April Rhodes for Art Gallery Fabrics (should be in shops any day now, and over in the UK in the next month or so)

Cotton + Steel (a new division of RJR fabrics) (will start arriving to shops in July)

Brambleberry Ridge by Violet Craft for Michael Miller Fabrics (will start arriving to shops in July)

I was hoping to share some progress on the clamshell project, but my sewing machine decided to blow up this weekend. I'm seriously hoping it isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed, but I have a horrible feeling that when your sewing machine goes bang and smoke comes out the top of it, it's not a good sign.

I imagine you know the last collection " April Showers " by 

 Bonnie & Camille  for Moda Fabrics so colorful . I really like  Camille´s style and how she designs her quilts. So I have given a chance to try something with these fabrics.

You saw how I enjoyed  drunkard´s path dies  in my last post . It was my first time and wanted to do some small project like that cushion.

Now I ´m ready for something bigger like a quilt using a charm pack and some fabric metres.

I chose colours in groups of four squares , like grey , greens, red , white and blue.
I could to cut  until eight units in only one time with my Big Shot Machine ... there were four fabric squares in  each pack.

Here you can see how perfect is the cutting 

Then , I cut the other  piece with the white Kona . I folded the fabric  until four times and got eight pieces.

This is how I ´m ready to do my quilt with a total of 32 drunkard´s path quarter circles  and 32 drunkard´s path arch & fan backgrounds

I have an idea to do the blocks and sew the quilt, but this will be next Saturday , when I hope I can show you my finished quilt quilted.

Me imagino que ya conoceis la última collección  " April Showers " de   Bonnie & Camille  para  Moda Fabrics tan alegre y colorida. La verdad es que me gusta mucho el estilo de Camille y el estilo de sus quilts. Así que le he dado una oportunidad a esta colección probando estas telas.

Ya viste que me encantó usar los troqueles Drunkard´s Path en mi último artículo. Era la primera vez y quería  hacer algún proyecto pequeño como el cojín, antes de hacer algo más grande.

Charm Pack April Showers

Elegí colores en grupos de cuatro cuadrados como gris, verdes, rojo , blanco y azul. Hasta ocho unidades pude cortar de una vez colocando en grupos de cuatro telitas.

Si echas un vistazo verás lo limpio que son los cortes.

Después corté la otra piece con la tela blanca. La doblé cuatro veces y conseguí cortar ocho  de una vez. Mirando la foto  lo verás.

Así que tengo preparadas , para hacer mi quilt,  32 piezas de cada modelo .

Tengo una idea de cómo  hacer los bloques para montar el quilt pero eso sera el próximo Sábado ,cuando te lo enseñé acabado y acolchado.

Prairie from Dashwood


 Have you seen this new line of fabric from Dashwood Studios?

Prairie is by Rebecca Stoner and it's a gorgeous collection of colours and prints - designed by a British designer for a British company, which is always something to champion, isn't it?

You can find Prairie at many online retailers, including Fabric HQ

I think I'm going to make a triangle cushion using this die,I think it'll look fab, don't you?

A fabric cover for my patchwork folder

Thanks  this new adventures with Sizzix , I needed something to schedule my projects. I love notebooks and then I decided to try one of the applique dies . 

Heart is one of my favourite , so I planned a fabric cover for a folder I had bought for it.

I´m in love with  Lecien prints, they are so romantic and so beautiful that I couldn ´t  resist to one of the last collections called " Flower Sugar" , do you know it ? 

I choose the white and the blue one with some of my linen to make my fabric cover.

Binder  ( mine is 8.5"x 9 3/4 " )
White, ecru or cream  linen 10"x11"
Flower Sugar fabric by Lecien ( white background) :
 13" x 11" for the cover
 2" x 23" for a part of the lining
1"x 11" sewing in one the flaps

I have took the size of my binder before. You must to adjust your size to yours. All the measures I give you  include seams.
First  sew the linen with the white fabric and  lay  the lace between them. Press and  handwrite the message with Frixion pen ( for the love of patchwork  ) . Onto the wrong side put the batting and do the   quilting. You can clean the pen just iroining over it.

Now go for the heart using the Big Shot machine and the Heart die. I have chose the big one. Don´t forget to iron the double fusible on the back  side of the blue fabric. Center the heart using a template before and pin.

Cut and iron on the linen. 

 Sew around the heart with the same colour thread  you used in the quilting . The ribbon must be down before sewing.
On the right side of the linen stitch a fabric strip  ( 1"x 11" ) with a decorative stitch. This will be in the left flat.
Take a look to the pictures to  make an idea.

Sew the blue fabric with the other white and you will have the lining .

Lay right side together, lining and cover , and sew around  leaving without sewing a little.

Turn the right side and finish by hand.

Do the flats  ( 2" width each one) and sew top and bottom

Now do the finishing adding the ribbon to close and tie and maybe some button if you want. 

And here it is my practical journal where I do my plans, ideas , take notes, pics of the finished projects , and everything  just done with Sizzix Dies !!!!

Gracias a esta nueva aventura con Sizzix, me vi en la necesidad de tener algo para programar mis proyectos. Ya sabéis que me  encantan los cuadernos y decidí probar con uno de mis troqueles preferidos, el corazones primitivos, en una funda para un archivador que había comprado.

Me encantan las telas de Lecien , siempre con este toque romántico y tan bonito. No pude resistirme a una de sus últimas colecciones llamada “ Flower Sugar “, ¿la conoces ?

Elegí dos de sus telas , una con el fondo en blanco  y otra en azul. Ambas tienen unos estampados preciosos de rosas.

Un archivador pequeño, el mío mide 22cm x 24.5cm comprado en Lecrerc

25.5 cm x 24.5 cm de lino crudo

 Tela Flower Sugar de Lecien ( fondo blanco ) :

34.5 cm x 28cm para la parte exterior.

5cm  x 58.5 cm para una parte del forro

2.5 cm x28 cm para una tira cosida en una de las solapas.

Tela Flower Sugar de Lecien ( fondo azul ) :

24.5 cm x 58.5 cm  para el forro

15cm x 9 cm para el corazón

58.5 cm x 28cm de guata

entretela de doble cara para pegar con plancha

Bolígrafo Frixion

Antes de empezar toma las medidas de tu archivador para ajustar. Las que yo indico ya  llevan incluídas las costuras.

Primero cose el lino con la tela blanca , colocando en un extremo la puntilla entre ambas telas , puedes ayudarte de alfileres. Plancha por el derecho y escribe a mano  en el lino tu mensaje con el boli.Coloca la guata debajo dejando el derecho escrito listo para bordar. Puedes sujetar con alfileres. 

Luego haz el bordado. El mío ha sido libre. La marca desaparecerá con la plancha. 

Ahora haz el corazón con la máquina Big Shot y el troquel del corazón, en este caso el grande. Pon la entretela de doble cara por el revés, situa una plantilla de corazón en papel para centrar la flor.

Corta y plánchalo  sober el lino. Borda alrededor habiendo colocado antes una parte de la cinta que luego cerrará el archivador.

En el lado derecho del lino cose la tira estrecha para adornar y haz una puntada decorativa. Esta parte será la solapa izquierda.

Cose la tela azul con la otra blanca y formarás con las dos  el forro.

Sitúala revés con revés y cose alrededor dejando una parte libre para dar la vuelta y luego rematar a mano.

Dobla hacia el interior para hacer las solapas  ( 5cm  de ancha) Cose toda la parte superior e inferior lo más cerca del borde que puedas.

Termina añadiendo la otra cinta cosida por detrás a mano y sobre la que pondrás un botón.

Coloca los adornos que quieras como algunos botones más o trocito de  cinta.

Y aquí mi práctico cuaderno  para anotar mis planes, ideas, fotos de mis proyectos ,y todos hechos con los troqueles de Sizzix!!

Espero que esta sea una buena manera para tener todos tus proyectos  guardados  en un bonito sitio , listos para trabajar.
