Layout with lace background

Hello everyone! It's Karola again with a new layout inspiration.
For today, I prepared a soft, girly layout, very easy to recreate, mostly because of using fantastic Sizzix dies to make bold and lacey background. I really love everything doily and lacey, as I mentioned before, so i always try to put some doilies in my projects. This time I used Bigz Die - Doily, Classical Lace and Thinlits Die Set 2PK - Damask & Scallop Borders to create an interesting background arrangement in my page. These large and lacey motifs are incredibly beautiful and very versatile.

Here are a few easy steps you can follow to recreate similiar background or even a whole page:

Sizzix supplies used:

  1. Prepare a layout base. I used yellow scrapbooking paper and a white textured cardstock on it. The edges of white cardstock was cut using "around the page" decorative punches. I used also mask with "chicken wire" motif on the top and the bottom of my page.
  2. Cut out 2 pieces of damask border and 2 piece of doily in two different colors of scrapbooking paper. Arrange damask borders in the centre of the page, leaving some space between and adhere the doilies by hiding a part of it under the damask borders, as shown on the photos below.
  3. Cut out oval frame using white cardstock and Framelits Die Set 4PK - Frame, Fancy Oval. Prepare your photo (7 x 8 cm) and adhere it, hiding the left photo edge under the left side of the oval frame, as you can see on the photo. Of course you can use also the oval shape photo.
  4. Then you can decorate your layout by creating some layers, adding title, embellies and maybe some mediums (I used yellow 3D paint to make a few decorative drops).

Well, I bet you will agree with me that this easy way makes the layout sweet, girly and super easy to create. Using Sizzix dies, you do not have lots of embellies, because you can always cut the motifs from the patterned paper you need in the color and material you want!

Thanks for visit us today! Have a wonderful, creative weekend!

Witajcie! Dziś przynoszę ze sobą na blog Sizzix-a kolejną layout-ową inspirację. Do dzisiejszego posta przygotowałam delikatny, dziewczęcy scrap, bardzo łatwy do odtworzenia, głównie dzięki wykorzystaniu fantastycznych wykrojników Sizzix, dzięki którym zrobiłam bogate, koronkowe tło mojego scrapa.

Wykorzystane produkty Sizzix:

Wykorzystując wykrojniki Sizzix nie musicie korzystać z mnóstwa gotowych dodatków, ponieważ zawsze możecie wyciąć sobie ulubione motywy w kolorze i z materiału jaki chcecie.

Dziękuję za dzisiejsze odwiedziny na naszym blogu! Życzę Wam wspaniałego, kreatywnego weekendu!

Tag Notes and Home decor

Hello! It's Anna here to share some ideas using the fabulous Sizzix Frameworks Die – Honeycomb (659430) by Tim Holtz.

Anna Draicchio - sizzix big shot - home decor - notes tag (1)

First up is a little notes that I made for my dear friend...

Anna Draicchio - sizzix big shot - home decor - notes tag (2)

It was so simple to just cut out the individual tags and slip a metal ring through them to hold the notes together and decorate the cover with papers and Sizzix dies.

The next project is an altered wood monogram...

I like incorporating my papercraft into my home decor. So, today's piece is a Monogrammed Home Decor Item perfect for my craft room corner.

Per le amiche italiane! :)

Ciao, Buon 25 Aprile!

Ehehehe :D

Grazie per essere passati di qui! Auguro a tutti voi buon week-end.

Hexagons are centre stage

Hello, I hope you've all enjoyed the Easter break, - we had a lovely weekend with lots of sun and lots of friends - I hosted a breakfast party on Easter Monday - which meant a really early morning as I baked a variety of breads - and if I had finished this table centre in time it would have looked great. As it is I've just finished it this morning, so I may need to have another party to show it off!!!

As I showed last week all the hexagons were fused in place and then all sides were stitched using a zig-zag stitch. Once layered with backing and wadding I stitched buttons in the middle of each complete hexagon motif, instead of quilting. Finally a double binding was used to finish the raw edges.
This could be made larger by making more motifs, or using a larger hexagon, which will be available in the middle of May -
1 1/2" side - http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/659984/sizzix-bigz-die-hexagons-1-1-2-sides
1 3/4" side - http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/659985/sizzix-bigz-die-hexagon-1-3-4-sides
2" sides - http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/659986/sizzix-bigz-die-hexagon-2-sides
or even 2 1/4" sides - http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/657885/sizzix-bigz-die-hexagon-2-1-4-sides
or you could turn it into place mats by making it  fewer motifs.
(Which reminds me that the Quilts UK Quilt show, at the Three Counties Showground, is only 3 weeks away - 15th - 18th May - I'll be there demonstrating the Big Shot and Dies with Cotton Patch and Lynne Goldsworthy will be demonstrating on Lady Sew and Sews stand. Come and say hello.)

I'm just thinking it might be fun to make a set for the patio table - but that I think will stay just a nice idea, for the moment anyway!
I used themed colours for the table centre, but you could dip into that scrap bag and make a fantastic scrap centre piece, the fun is in the choosing!!
As the hexagons are fused into place it does mean that this is stiffer and so doesn't drape well, so it probably wouldn't be a good idea to use this method to make a larger item like a quilt.
Hope you like this easy way to use hexagons. I have no idea what I'll be making next week - so you'll have to log on to find out. Meanwhile keep sewing.

Patchwork Fun

Quilting, patchwork and applique and indeed all forms of textile based crafts are experiencing a resurgence all over Europe, not that they ever went away! Sizzix steel rule dies, namely our Bigz and Originals ranges are perfect for cutting any type of textile from wafer thin voile through to leather.

I was flicking through our Quilting catalogue when I came across an elephant die which was designed for Appliqué/patchwork applications and I thought it was too nice not to share with my papercrafting buddies. The die in question is Elephant (658638) and is a Bigz L die.

When we talk about elephants and patchwork in the same breath the first thing that springs to mind are the wonderful 'Elmer' series of children's books written by English author and illustrator David McKee. These books have become classics enthralling generations of children, in fact, I am reading a copy of the first Elmer book to my 3 year old daughter which belonged to my 22 year old son.

I started by choosing 6 bright fresh patterned papers from the lovely people at Echo Park, the 6" x 6" paper pad is called 'A Perfect Summer' as the sun is shinning as I write this I thought it was appropriate, I hope the weather is great where you are too!! I cut the papers into 3cm squares and fixed them to a rectangle of stiff ivory card measuring 15 x21cm which covers the die perfectly.

Once I have my patchwork rectangle I placed it face down onto the die and ran it through my Big Shot resulting in a body, four legs and an ear.

I took each die cut and pierced a row of holes around the edges (you can use a pin or piercing tool) and joined up the dots with a fine brown marker to give the illusion of stitching. You can of course use a sewing machine if you have one to hand. Weathered Wood is one of my favourite Distress ink colours of all time, it's a lovely smoky grey colour and its great for edging your die cuts to add subtle contrast. Finally, I attached a white pearl button for an eye with a black adhesive pearl at the top this looks like the elephant is deep in thought trying to remember what he has forgotten, the knotted string around  his trunk completes the visual pun.

Here is the finished card, the text was printed using my PC and the assembled elephant was mounted using 3D foam pads. Hope you like it, see you all next Wednesday!

Pastel hexagons

Hexagons are still on trend and I wanted to use them to create a modern and clean card.

I wanted to use hexagons in various sizes and the easiet way to chose them is simply to look at the way they allign on the sheet the come on. I chose the smallest and three larger ones skipping one between each of them.

Next up I chose four pastel colours and decided which order I wanted them to appear in. Using the Magnetic Platform made it easy to cut each hexxie using only small scraps of paper.

I glue the four hexxies together (only lightly since I knew I wanted to stich them down as well) and attached them to a layer of purple and white cardstock.

In order to finish the card I stamped a sentiment in the lower right corner of the white cardstock and mounted everything on a black card base.

---o---

Diecut the flowers from the cardboard using  Sizzix Bigz Die - Tattered Florals 656640 and framework from the other patterned paper using Sizzix Frameworks Die - Chevron 659428.
Placement all the cut flowers and a few other flowers like in the image below. Placement also your patterned papers and framework (which I have shortened)
Finally fasten the flower to the card, add some gesso for the edges and set the sentiment using alphabet stickers.

Have a wonderful day,

Moi kaikille:)

Tässä taas uusi kukkakortti. Tykkään yleensäkin kierrätyksestä ja säästän kaikkea varulta jatkojalostusta varten:) Tässä kortissa käytin kukkaan pahvilaatikon pahvia.

 Sizzix tarvikkeet:
Sizzix Bigz Die - Tattered Florals 656640

Muut tarvikkeet:
Paperit: Pion Design "A Day in May", pahvia tai aaltopahvia.
Muutama kukka, tarra-aakkosia, gessoa, Distress Ink muste - Walnut Stain, ompelukone.

Mukavaa keskiviikkoa,
Minna

Bookmark for two. Shadow die cutting

Hi everybody!

As you may know, next Wednesday is World Book Day and it is a great celebration in Catalonia, because we celebrate Sant Jordi (St. Georges) too. This Holiday, which celebrates love and reading and the streets are filled with roses and books, is actually my favorite holiday and I love taking a stroll around the streets of Barcelona and browse through the book stalls.

It is very easy to create a shadow effect with Sizzix dies, as I did in this bookmark. You just have to die cut the same shape with black card stock and glue it a little bit to the side. I love the dimension of this simple technique.

I designed this double bookmark so the book can be shared and read by two people at the time, but it creates also a cute embellishment if you leave the smallest tag out of the book.

Happy Monday!
................................

¡Feliz lunes!
