"Chewing kid" layout

Hello all!

Here is my layout with amazing Sizzix dies. There is my younger son on they photo - it was his birthday on that day and he was chewing something at the moment when I was making the photo. I like photos of this kind - they always look very "natural".

The products I used:

Have a nuce day!!

Rectangles and Squares quilt finished

Hi  everyone! How is August going ? Today I  want to show you my Rectangles and Squares quilt finished at last . It took some time sewing and quilting but I was wishing to have it on my hand finished and in some place at home.
The tutorial can be found in this post , just the last day in May , some more than two months ago.
I´m  in love with this quilt because it ´s better than I hope after deciding the quilting.

For the back  I   added some more rectangles and squares , red fabric and  some rest of a soft beige .
The same red looked like great as binding.

Supplies

658324
Sizzix Bigz XL 25" Die - Squares, 2" Finished (2 1/2" Unfinished)

657605 ( 659837 new code )

Sizzix Bigz Die - Rectangle, 2" x 4" Finished (2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Unfinished)656847  Sizzix Accessory - Cutting Pads, Bigz XL 25", 1 Pair

657900Sizzix Big Shot Machine Only (Powder Blue & Teal)

Note:  this time I don ´t say size exactly as this is a quilt that you can sew as big as you want.

For the top :

White fabric
Print fabric

For the backing:

White and print fabric
Red fabric
Some fabric that matches with the print  on the top.
Light cream thread quilting

Batting , mine it is  a mix of cotton and acrilic

Binding :
Red fabric

I usually think about how to quilt a quilt when it is finished.  It´s not an easy thing everytime .  Just  look and try to " see " what it is better  or how I would like . This time I only knew I wanted  to sew  the same thing on the squares, as a " ladder ". This was a big swirl.
You can see more pics of my quilting process in my Instagram
Then I decided to fill the rectangles in white with continuos very little swirls, so the big ones look like pop up and I love  this effect. Don´t you ?
Big and long swirls too for the border

The size is 39.5" x 44"

It´s incredible how just simple geometric shapes can do a beautiful quilt. Thanks to Sizzix for making these useful dies !!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Love

..................................................................************* ..................................................................

Materiales :

658324
Sizzix Bigz XL 25" Die - Squares, 2" Finished (2 1/2" Unfinished)

657605 ( 659837 new code )

Sizzix Bigz Die - Rectangle, 2" x 4" Finished (2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Unfinished)656847  Sizzix Accessory - Cutting Pads, Bigz XL 25", 1 Pair

657900Sizzix Big Shot Machine Only (Powder Blue & Teal)

Mercedes

Pillow Box Owl

Hello! It's Anna here to share some ideas using Sizzix products.
Today I wanted to show you two new paper projects that are really quick and easy to make.
I've seen a lot of these owls dressing up pillow box on the web, but I wanted to share my version that includes some dies of Sizzix Starter Kit.

cafe creativo - big shot sizzix - owl pillow box - gufi scatolina (1)

Can you guess what tools I used to make this fun Owl Treat Holder? To make the Boxes I use the Sizzix Pillow Box die cut and my Big Shot (I love this die)!

cafe creativo - big shot sizzix - owl pillow box - gufi scatolina (3)

cafe creativo - big shot sizzix - owl pillow box - gufi scatolina (2)

To make the other parts of the owl I used the dies of Starter Kit. The hearts can also become wings or feet! Circles can become the eyes, eyelids and wings. I curled over the feet for a realistic perching look.
In one of the two boxes I added some eyelashes and a flower to make a "she" owl. Any box-owl it was really quick to assemble. I still think these are so cute!

Hope you like this project.

Per le amiche italiane! :)

Ciao a presto!

Birds on a line - table runner

Hello. the Festival of Quilts already seems a long time ago and Christmas projects now beckon! which feels crazy - but that's the way the deadlines work. - So before I really start thinking about Christmas - and ideas for decorations and quick gifts to make I thought I'd show you some of the table runners I made for the Festival.,
This week I'm featuring the Birds on a line - it uses a Bigz Die - Bird w/Wing #2 by Rachel Bright - 659824http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/659824/sizzix-bigz-die-bird-w-wing-2 , which are appliqued into place -

You can either make it using co-ordinating fabrics or use up some of those scraps you've been stockpiling.
For the background, and backing, I used a cream on cream print - 48" x 44". Cut into 4 pieces 12" x 44". Join 2 pieces together to make a long strip, and repeat with the other 2 pieces for the backing.
Choose your fabrics for the birds - you will need fabric 6" x 5" for each bird, and I made 14 birds.

Before cutting the birds and wings iron a fusible web to the wrong side of the fabrics, then cut using die 659824 - I cut the birds with fabric RS and WS up so that they would face in both directions.
Remove the backing from the fabrics and arrange along the length of the table runner, and then fuse in place. (At this point I reduced the length of the table runner to 82")
Mix and match the wings on the birds, and fuse in place.
I stitched the birds in place using a narrow zig-zag stitch in matching colours.

Now as you can see I've added a binding but haven't quilted it yet - I know this is the wrong way to do things but it was the only way this table runner was going to be useable at the show!!
I selected one of my fabrics for the binding and I cut 1 1/2" strips to give a total of 190" - I joined the pieces together to make a long strip.
Layer up the backing, a piece of wadding 12" x 84" and then lay the top RS up and pin/tack the layers together.
I then stitched the binding RS to the top of the runner, pressed to the wrong side, turned under a 1/4" seam allowance and slip stitched it to the back of the runner.

So now I have to decide how to finish this - I can't make up my mind whether to create a 'washing line' for the birds to sit on - or to create 'twigs' with machine stitching.
I'll let you know which I chose next time.
The birds would also look good on a cushion, or pillows, and you could also make someplace mats to match the table runner.
Or thinking about Christmas how about making some in silver fabric to hang on a tree - my ideas are now running away with me so I it's time for me to go!!!
Have fun stitching.

Holidays memories by Karine

Hello!

Here is a pretty unusual combo for me but I must say that I loved it! I took the opportunity to scrapbook a pretty picture from our holidays.

Supply list:

Papers: Kési'art, 4heures37
Cardstock: American Crafts
Alphabet: Glitz Design, Basic Grey
Sticker: 4heures37
Masking Tape
Stamps: Hero Arts, Glitz Design, Florilèges Design
Inks: Chalk Prima,Versafine
Others: Stabilo Pen68, charcoal

Dies:

658300 : Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit
658518 : Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folder 2PK-Pom-poms & roses set

I wanted to scrapbook a minimalist but free style page! I started by reworking my white cardstock with my Stabilo68 felt-tipped pens and stamps!

I partially worked on my background by printing a nice heart stamp three times with turquoise blue ink. Stamp the three patterns without withdrawing any more ink to create a gradation.
Then I added a touch of watercolour with my Stabilo Pen68 pens! Make some doodles on a Teflon mat then add a bit of water. Withdraw some of this mix with a paintbrush and splash your background!
Colorize directly your background with a paintbrush.
Let it dry for a while.

Create patterns on a soft green patterned paper with the “roses” embossing folder. Make the embossed patterns stand out by scribbling on them with a charcoal.

Add a matching sticker, masking tape, your title and a bit of charcoal strokes!

Have a nice day,

Karine

Bonjour !

Cardstock : American Crafts
Alphabets : Glitz Design, Basic Grey
Etiquette : 4heures37
Masking Tape
Tampons : Hero Arts, Glitz Design, Florilèges Design
Encre : Chalk Prima,Versafine
Divers : Stabilo Pen68, fusain

Dies utilisés :

658300 : Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit
658518 : Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folder 2PK-Pom-poms & roses set

Fantastic Mr. Fox

The title of this blog refers to one of Roald Dahl's fabulous collection of children's books illustrated by the genius that is Quentin Blake. I am particularly partial to children's book illustration as is my good buddy and fellow designer Debi Potter.

Debi and I trained as illustrators at the same time, in the same college where I specialised in cartoons and she specialised in children's book illustration which brings us neatly to my point.

Debi has designed a range of woodland themed dies which are just adorable so if you like Die-cutting, foxes and owls you need look no further. Luckily for us Europeans it is exclusive to our region too.

For today's post I chose the Sizzix Bigz Die - Fox Face (659910) which I have used quite a bit recently for both paper and textile based projects. I began by die-cutting the face from ivory corrugated card and some Orange patterned paper from the My Mind's Eye Collectable range. I inked the edges of the die-cut shapes and attached the corrugated card shapes in position.

Next, I employed one of my favourite paper craft cheats by using a pattern makers wheel and marker pen to create a faux stitched effect around the perimeter of the die-cut shapes. Sometimes, life's to short to pull out your sewing machine and change the bobbin! I die-cut the nose from brown card and attached it with a 3D foam pad. I used adhesive black pearls for eyes although you can die-cut them if you prefer.
I folded an 8 x 11 cm base card before trimming to my desired shape. Next, I applied Distress Ink to the edges to add definition and added my faux stitching.

I wanted to make a tail, so I die-cut the fox's cheek from orange patterned card and ivory corrugated card. I trimmed off the top of the ivory card and attached it to the orange die-cut before adding the stitching.

The next bit is all scissor work, I decided to smarten up Mr. fox by adding a collar and tie. The collar is cut from stiff ivory card and the tie from patterned paper from the Collectable range. I inked the edges and crumpled the tie before attaching both to the base card along with the assembled tail.

And here is the finished card, Quite dapper I think?

Black & White Arrows

I really like the look you can achieve when using embossing folders and the arrows you can emboss using one of the folders from Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK - Arrows & Typewriter Keys is very cool. I wanted to create a card that show cased the arrows and this is what I came up with:

The design is very simple: I simply cut a piece of paper a little smaller than a standard A2 card and ran it through the Big Shot using the Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK - Arrows.

Once I had done that I curled up each of the corners slightly because I wanted my card to have even more dimension than what you get when using embossing folders.

I wanted to add some stitching and I needed it to be very precise. That need led me to using the smaller rectangle die from Thinlits Die Set 8PK - Basics as a stencil: I placed the die in the middle of the card and lightly traced around it with a pencil prior to machine stitching with a black thread. Once I was done sewing, I carefully erased the pencil lines.

To fit in a sentiment I die cut a label using one of the dies from Thinlits Die Set 12PK - Ornate Labels, stamped my sentiment in the middle of the label, added some enamel dots as decoration and finally mounted the label on the card using foam adhesive.

Supply list:
Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK - Arrows & Typewriter Keys
Thinlits Die Set 12PK - Ornate Labels
Thinlits Die Set 8PK - Basics
Sizzix Accessory - Magnetic Platform for Wafer-Thin Dies
Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (Powder Blue & Teal)
Cardstock
Stamp (Lawn Fawn)
Enamel Dots (My Mind's Eye)
Thread
Ink (VersaFine)

---o---

A rainbow necklace made with shrink plastic and a Bigz banner dies

A few weeks ago I shared a necklace I made using the Prima Love Gears in this blog. I was one of my favorite projects I have done and today I would like to share another necklace project but this time with a very different look.

I used Sizzix Bigz Pennats die 659739, a Big Shot, shrink plastic either in frosted or clear, Versamagic ink pads in different light colours, a 3/16" whole Punch, jump rings, heat gun, link chain and if possible jewelry tools.

I started by die cutting the banners.  One of the beauties of Bigz dies is that you can cut pretty much anything you can cut with scissors, so two layers of shrink plastic is no problem, so with one go I die cut 12 banners. A part from time saving, die cutting makes sure than all are exactly the same, which is very important when you want a handmade look not a homemade look. I placed them in a row to make sure that the right mix of shapes in the "right" order.

I made a template to place the wholes in all the banners. The holes are about 5mm from top and left/right edges. I used the template to punch out each hole in all banners. I place the ink pads in order so I would know which ones to use in which order.

I colored each banner separately on a piece of scrap paper. This is important since if ink gets to the other side will show later. Then I placed it on a heat resistant surface and heat it up with a heat gun. If you font have one, you could always use the oven with very low heat, but follow the shrink plastic manufacturers instructions!

I love watching the shrink plastic get all curly and more curly. It looks that it is all going wrong, but you just need persevere to keep the heat on.

Once that it looks pretty even, still is very hot, so if you would like to flatten it use a acrylic block or any heat resistant flat object.

On the left you can see how they look colored and shrinked beside the original size. On the right, you can see all the coloured banners.

One of the things you need to consider with shrink plastic is that the colour intensifies, so some may not look as you thought they would, like the pink and purple. So I redid them with a different ink pad to get the right hue. Once I was completely happy, I started to link them with jump rings.

OK, this step I recommend to do before than I did this. To preserve the color layer it is best to apply some sort of glaze all over the back of the banners. I like to use a clear gloss spray glaze from DecoArt and let them dry completely.

Open each jump ring with the help of two flat nose pliers or similar. Then I thread the banners  through the jump ring: right hole from one - left hole of the next one.

Once I had them all linked, I used a link chain and joined the ends. Finally I added a lobster clap in the middle.

And here it is, a rainbow banner necklace!

I love how colorful it is and how shinny looks.  I hope you do too!
And give shrink plastic + Bigz dies a go!
