Sunshine!

Didn't see too much sunshine on the Llyn Peninsula last week but that's OK because we didn't see too much rain either!

I'm back from holiday refreshed and raring to go and this week...... I'm bringing my own sunshine!

A couple of weeks ago I used a Bigz heart die as both a stamp and a stencil. This week I am using die-cut letters as stencils but in a completely different way.

I am using an old favourite in the form of the Bigz XL Word Play Alphabet Die which is not the cheapest die on earth but it is an investment that you won't regret. I am also using one of the Bigz dies from the recent Echo Park collection namely the Sun and Clouds die.

I found a wooden plaque in a local charity shop and sanded off the sentiment which was printed on the front, if that proves too much of a challenge you can always paint over it. Next, I die-cut the word 'sunshine' from textured paper. I chose textured paper because I wanted to apply it to the plaque as shown using a thin mist of adhesive spray, having a slight texture makes it easier to remove when I'm finished with the die-cuts as you will see.

I took a rectangle of card and die-cut the sun stencil. I used Acrylic Distress Paint but any acrylic paint will work just fine for this project, the colours I have chosen are Wild Honey, Mustard Seed and Antique Linen. I placed my die-cut sun stencil just above the letter 'N' and used a sponge applicator to apply the colour.

After removing the stencil I applied move colour to cover the letters. Now it's time to dig deep into my box of goodies and reach for some of my favourite Tim Holtz Layering Stencils, I chose Speckles, Splatters and Dot Fade, they should do the trick.
I was quite happy how this turned out so far but now it's time to remove the die-cut letters using the tip of my craft knife. Once the paint is completely dry I'm taking a fine line marker and drawing around the inside of each letter. Hand lettering is all the rage at the moment and it's not as easy as it looks but this technique is so simple because it's the imperfections that make it special!

Once I had finished the letters it was time to complete the sentiment using a typewriter alphabet stamp set to spell the word 'You are my...' and again the imperfect placement of the letters is..... Perfect!!!

The most romantic lamp for a dinner

Hi everybody!

I was waiting for the new embossing folders DINA4 size for a long time!

Since I saw them, thought about this project. With this new measure, we can give texture to larger items such as a candle lampshade.

You only have to download this template, print in DIN A4, and follow the step by step to make one of these beautiful lamps. (You can use plain cardstock, parchment paper, vellum, etc.)

I'm sure you'll make one to decorate your table this summer. It's perfect for an outside romantic summer dinner ;-), you'll tell me!

The Sizzix products used in this project are:
660515 Sizzix Big Shot PLUS Starter Kit (White and Gray)

-----------------

Crafts for children part two: Colouring and die cutting card

Hi everybody! Elena here.

Are you enjoying your summer? Your children sure do, as they don't have to go to school, so we have to keep them entertained and one great way to do it is crafting with them. So today I want to show you a really fun card they can make with techniques than can be easily made by them: colouring and die cutting.

 Supply list:
  • colored pencils
  • Card: Green, white, pink, yellow, black
  • Adhesive
  • Foam squares

To create this card I have used the free Colour Your Own Papers by Sizzix that you can download just clicking on the image below.

You just have to print them in the card of your choice, I have used white and pink card, and colour them. You don't have to be great at colouring, just have fun!

Then I have cut my coloured paper in 1 cm strips and have attached to my card base with foam squares.

Finally I have die cut my sentiment from the Happines Phrases Thinlits die set and the flower is from the Starter Kit. It matches perfectly with de coloured paper!

Have fun crafting with your children this summer!

..........................

Winged Tag by Romy

Hello Sizzix fans!

Sometimes when I see a new Sizzix die, I immediately know how I want to use it. That's exactly what happened when I saw the beautiful Bigz Angel Wings die. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to use it to make a winged tag. Of course I also used some other beautiful Sizzix dies to embellish my tag.

Sizzix supplies:

My tag was made with the amazing Movers & Shapers Tag & Bookplates Die. I cut out the tag twice from two different sheets of paper and cut off the edges of the pink tag, so that I could attach the tags on top of each other and a small black border would be visible.

I used the Bigz Die Wings, Angel to cut out two wings from black paper and attached them on the left and right side of the tag, to make my tag look like it is winged.

The main element on my tag is a layered butterfly, which consists of three different butterflies. I cut out the two largest butterflies with dies from the Big Shot Plus Starter Kit. The smallest butterfly was cut out with the Paper Punch Butterfly Large. I also punched an extra butterfly, which I attached above the layered butterfly.

I finished off my tag with a lovely heart with branches, which was cut out with a die from the Thinlits Die Set Phrase Thank You with Hearts. I added a pearl in the middle of the heart for a more elegant look.

Thank you for having a look at the Sizzix blog today!
Have a great day!

In Dutch:
Hallo Sizzix fans!

Holiday Hexies

Dies used: Hexagons, 1in Sides #2
                 Hexagons, 1 1/4in Sides

We're away on holiday at the moment and the last couple of times we've been away I've taken some English Paper Piecing with me and it's the same again this time - it may qualify as a habit now! When preparing a project to take on a summer holiday thoughts don't automatically go to Christmas but I was sent a couple of bundles of gorgeous Dashwood Christmas fabric last week and I wanted to use it straight away along with a few others from the festive section of my stash.

Also my son's teacher told me that her mum, who is a keen quilter, has recently made 30 mini stockings like the ones I made as teacher gifts using my Big Shot and posted about on here last Christmas. Suddenly making Christmassy things in July seemed thoroughly reasonable!

Using the Hexagons, 1in Sides die and a few sheets of scrap paper otherwise destined for the recycle bin, I cut a pile of papers. Then with the Hexagons 1 1/4in die I set to chopping the fabric.

They are intended to become part of a table runner which will need to be 2m long to fit our dining table and so Christmas 2016 may be a more realistic finish date if sewing is to be as relaxed and enjoyable as planned.

And so along with the clothes packing an EPP sewing bag containing all of the essentials had to be packed too.

Cutting the papers and fabric and getting the travel EPP kit together was so much easier and took a fraction of the time it took to pack one of the boys' bags! My Big Shot Plus really is an invaluable piece of kit.

Hopefully a week of relaxed hexagon sewing in the sunshine lies ahead!

Happy sewing!

Hello Sizzix Friends,
This week has been so warm in Italy but yesterday finally rain has come!

Red and mustard shades are always my favourites!

I realized a new romantic card with the Tribal Adventure dies.
I hope you enjoy it.

You need:
Sizzix Thinlits Die - Happy Birds (660497)
Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Chevron Texture (660506)
Banner from Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4 PK - Speech Bubbles (660801)
Decorative Strip from Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit (White & Gray) (660515)
Sizzix Accessory - Die Brush & Foam Pad for Wafer-Thin Dies (660513)
White card
White mini card
Cardstocks (kraft, cream, chevron mustard, red)
Double-sided sticky tape
Scissors
Stickers

Emboss a white small card using Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Chevron Texture (660506).
Die cut a decorative strip using the die from Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit (White & Gray) (660515) and a Kraft cardstock.
Die cut the Happy Bird using a kraft cardstock first and a cream cardstock after.
Die cut a banner using a mustard chevron patterned cardstock and a die from Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4 PK - Speech Bubbles (660801).
Paste the white embossed mini card on a bigger white card using the double-sided sticky tape.
Fix the decorative strip on one side of the card using a long piece of thin double-sided sticky tape.
Remove the excess paper from the Happy Birds using the Die Brush & Foam Pad for Wafer (660513).
Mix and match the paper pieces to get the final Happy Birds (I die cut the heart using a red cardstock).
Paste the double-sided sticky tape on the back of the birds to fix the paper pieces.

Realize a red label with a label maker and put it on the card using, if necessary, a thin piece of double-sided sticky tape (fix the banner between the card and the red label).
Add a romantic round sticker.
Remove the protective film from the back of the Happy Birds and fix them on the card.
Add two pieces of autumnal washitapes above the Happy Birds.
Add some alphabet stickers to get the word LOVE.

That's it!
Have a great Sunday!
Silvia

Happy Birthday Card by Gerry van Gent

Happy Sunday Sizzix friends!
Today I am sharing a card my daughter and I created for a friend of hers.
We used the Free Paper Downloads "Colour Your Own Papers" and
the New paper punch by Tim Holtz.
660163 Sizzix Paper Punch Bow, Medium
&
*       *       *

Before I adhered the cupcake I gave it to my daughter
to colour it. She chose the colours herself and I matched with
a coordinating double card.
I cut carefully the top part of the cherry so when glued
it will be on top of the card. I added two extra leaves -
- you will find a branch with a heart on the Free Paper Downloads.

I cut carefully the top phrase "Happy Birthday"
and gave it to my daughter to colour it in.

Then I simply adhered it under the cupcake.
I used the two hearts for balloons.

I added a punched bow for a fun touch.

Thank you for visiting us today!
