Hearts a flutter part 3

What a difference a few days make!
Last week as I wrote this blog the heating was on and there was about 10cms of snow outside, today the window is open, the sky is a beautiful blue and there are tiny snowdrops in bloom in the garden.
This week I have been away, with some of the team at Ellison, in Frankfurt at Paperworld.  Here we are with the stand set up – and it gives a tiny glimpse of things to come later in the year.

It also meant that I didn't have as much time to create as many blocks as I had planned, so I have decided  to make a wall hanging with 3 of my blocks.
I chose 3 blocks that had a variety of shades of red and joined them together with 2.5” wide sashing as shown below.

I then added sashing down the sides to completely frame the blocks.

I layered the work with a backing fabric and wadding ready to quilt.
Next week I will complete the wall hanging and show you what comes next.
Happy stitching.

Baby Card

Hello!

Here is a card for a baby boy that is born recently :) For this "Bienvenue" card, I used two different dies and an embossing folder.

657996 Card, Scallop Circle insert
658605Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 9PK - Doilies, Lovely

657809 Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK - Beatnik Bouquet Set

Supply list:

Papers: Basic Grey, Kési'Art
Brads: American Crafts
Die cut: American Crafts
Stamp: Craft Origine
Ink: Black Versafine
3D adhesive

In an anise green paper, cut out a large scallop circle with the die "Card, Scallop Circle insert".

Superimpose two circles with scooped-out heart shapes. Choose papers with totally different colors so that your accents stand out more.
The last circle is glued with 3D adhesives. The rocking horse is a die cut that is glued with 3D adhesive as well.

Add a title stamped with black ink.

Glue the whole on an embossed white paper. Then glue this rectangle on a red paper.

Then choose a matching background paper as a finishing touch.

Here you are! My card is ready to be sent!

Have a nice day!

Karine

Bonjour,

Easy as 1,2,3! (Part 1)

Just got back from the Frankfurt Creativeworld Trade Fair. it was lovely to be working for Rayher again and to bump into a few familiar faces along the way. I spent four days demonstrating Sizzix alongside Ranger ink  products which is easy because they compliment each other so well.

With that in mind I thought I'd create a few tags using a fabulous new set of embossing folders designed by Tim Holtz. They are sized specifically to work with ATC's but they fit perfectly onto a medium sized tag too.

I have created three different tags which you can see above and I'll show you the steps to make each in the coming weeks but we will start at the beginning with Number one...

I used a variety of Distress inks, mainly yellows and browns, I know people have their own favourites so feel free too use whatever you prefer. The Sizzix products used are:

  • Movers & Shapers Base Die - Tag & Tie by Tim Holtz (657859)
  • Sizzix 'Texture Trades' Embossing folders - Numbers Set by Tim Holtz (658573)
Die cut a tag from smooth heavy weight white card and choose a stamp about the same size as your tag, I'm using a nice floral garland, coat the stamp using an embossing ink pad and stamp directly onto the '1' embossing folder (negative/reverse side). The ink will remain wet so when you emboss the image will transfer onto your tag. remove the tag and sprinkle clear embossing powder over the surface before shaking off any excess, fix with a heat tool and you can now start to apply colour using yellow distress ink and a sponge applicator, the clear embossing powder resists the ink so it remains white.

Start to add more colour, perhaps one of the lovely orange shades before deepening the colour around the edges with a dark brown ink pad like Walnut Stain or Vintage Photo. Spritz some water onto the tag using a Mini Mister and blot the tag with kitchen roll to create an interesting finish. Finally, die cut a strip of lace border and ink the edges prior to attaching to the base of your tag.
I added a stamped clock face to the left of the tag, it just seemed to balance the design better. add some string or twine through the hole and your done, Hope you like it, if you do, tune in next week for part 2!

Small Mixed-Media Love-Notebook

Hi!

I love to create a mixed-media projects, and thus work with paints, stamps, spray, stencils, etc. And Sizzix helps me to create interesting backgrounds. Also I often use the resulting figures as key elements of collage. This is very convenient, because I do not need to suffer and cut with scissors.

So today I want to show you a small notebook, which was made with mixed-media techniques.

Items used:
Craft paper
My Mind's Eye paper – Stella&Rose (6x6 pad)
Acrylic Paint – Yellow, Turquoise
Decoupage Glue – Art Potch
Adirondack Color Wash – Sunset Orange
Glitter Making Memory – Buttercup
Crystals
Different Stamps and Rub-Ons

1. I used the Curly die to make more textural background. I cut out of the paper curl, and then used it as a mask with yellow paint.

2. I sprinkled orange spray and smeared it across the collage to change a shade. And then I used the spray to created drips.

3. I cut a flower-heart using Heart, Stem & Leaves  die.

4. I glued the parts of the flower-heart on the collage with decoupage glue.

5. Then I added shadows using paints and a permanent marker. Then I added decorative elements (rub-ons, stamps).
6. I cut a text using Inside Out die. Then I glued it using decoupage glue.
7. I covered the entire surface of the collage by decoupage glue, added glitter around the heart and in the middle of the flowers.

And notebook cover is ready. The notebook size is 6.5x15,5 cm.

Have a nice day,

Daria.

Бумага My Mind's Eye – коллекция Stella&Rose (набор 15*15 см)
Art Potch
Спрей Adirondack Color Wash – цвет Sunset Orange
Глиттер Making Memory – цвет Buttercup

Make your own background!

Hello!

Embossing has been a very popular technique in my scrapbook classes over the last few years. People like that you can emboss paper and turn any piece of paper into a new one, adding texture and a 3D effect to your crafty projects.

Today, I would like to show you a 8x8 layout I made, mixing patterned paper with white cardstock that I previously embossed and inked!

But first of all, here's what you'll need for this layout :

  • Big Shot (655268)
  • Sewing and measuring Tape Embossing Folder set (657671)
  • Papers (Studio Calico)
  • Stamps (Studio Calico, Technique Tuesday)
  • Badge (October Afternoon)
  • Wood veneers (Studio Calico)
  • Alphas (American Crafts)
  • Inks (Versafine)
  • Mists (Studio Calico)
  • Cut'n'Dry foam (Ranger)

First of all, you need to cut a piece of white cardstock size 4x4". Then, insert it once inside the embossing folder and run it through your Big Shot.

As the width of the embossing folder is 4", you just have to run it through your Big Shot once.

Once your white cardstock is embossed, grab your favorite Studio Calico mists and add colors to the top embossed designs, using a cut'n'dry foam.

While you let this dry, start glueing your picture on the upper right side.

You can start stamping your background (here I used a ROAD TRIP stamp by Technique Tuesday) and create embellishments with title stamp (like the I love this life stamp by Technique Tuesday).

Once your embossed paper is dry, glue it at the top of the paper, near your photo.

Use your sewing machine and sew all around the edges.

Add your title, wood veneer embellishments, badge and label and you're good!

I am loving this size more and more so you might see more of these layouts in the near future! :D

Have a great day!
Céline

Winter notebook

I love notebooks. I have always a variety on hand to write down anything I want to remember and also I think they are a great gift because who does not love a notebook totally customized and handmade?

Today I showcase this notebook conceived as a  winter journal and the simple step by step to make it.

Supply list:

Cut out a pattern paper a centimeter smaller than the cover of your notebook, ink the edges with distress ink and glue it to the cover. Then, using the Big Shot, die cut all the frames with pattern paper and cardstock. Ink everything and glue it well centered on the cover.  Die cut also the title of the notebook,  glue it and varnish with Glossy Accents.

Now let's decorate the notebook with a touch of white gel pen, rhinestones,  some twine stucked  around the paper to make it more finished and make the closure with a colorful bow.

Happy Monday!

Elena

...........................

¡Feliz lunes!

scrappy 9 patch pouch tutorial

Hello again everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and if you've had snow it is starting to thaw out!

Today we're going to make a simple drawstring pouch using scrap fabrics. It's lovely little pocket sized project that won't take you more than about half an hour and once you've made one I'm sure you'll be itching to make more. They're ideal for keeping your sewing-on-the-go kit all together, or for handbag essentials like your keys, lipstick, a pack of tissues and so on. You can also fill them with little treats for birthday presents - try travel size toiletries for grown ups and sweets or small toys for children.

pouch1

Dies used;

Sizzix Bigz Die - 2" finished (2 1/2" unfinished)
Sizzix Bigz XL 25" Die - strips 2 1/2" wide

If you have a Big Shot Pro you can also use;
Sizzix Bigz Pro Die - square, 6" finished (6 1/2" unfinished)

Finished size - approx. 6" square

poucha

Use your 2" finished die to cut a total of 18 squares from a variety of fabrics. The more the merrier!
Cut 1 strip using the strip die 2.5" x at least 14"

Cut 2 x 6.5" squares for the pouch lining

pouchb

pouchc

Using scissors, cut the strip into 2 pieces, each measuring 6.5" in length. Fold the edges over by 1/4" or so, and press, and 1/4" or so again, and press. Then fold each strip in half along the length, wrong sides together, and press again. Set aside.

Assemble your patchwork pouch pieces by sewing 2 sets of  9 squares into 3 rows of 3 (a 9-patch!) Press well.
Pin a folded strip to the outside top of each 9-patch - aligning the raw edges together, and sew on using an 1/8" seam

pouchd

With right sides together, and with the now attached folded strips at the top, pin and sew around the sides and bottom of the pouch. Leave the top unstitched - that's the opening! Once stitched, turn right side out and press.

pouche

Repeat with the lining pieces - right sides together, sew down each side and across the bottom - leaving an opening at least 2" wide for turning.

Now place the patchwork pouch inside the lining - right sides together, and lineup the raw edges at the top. Pin and sew all the way around the top using a 1/4" seam.

pouchf

Turn right ways out - pulling the patchwork pouch out through the hole you left at the bottom of the lining. Close the opening in the lining, either by hand stitching or by sewing close to the edge with your machine.

pouchg

Push the lining into the patchwork pouch.

pouchi

Use 2 lengths of ribbon or cord, each one approximately 15" long and thread through the folded strips that have formed the drawstring channel (use a bodkin or safety pin to help you with this!), and either knot off each end, add a bead, or button or use a small scrap of fabric as a tab.

Stuff with your choice of essentials and you're done!

drawstring bags

You can adapt this idea to make a pouch of any size. It's a great way to use up stray quilt blocks you may have made - simply change the measurements of the lining pieces and the strips for the drawstring channel accordingly. For example - 12.5" unfinished blocks would need 2 strips 2.5" x 12.5", and 2 squares for the lining each measuring 12.5" square.

Quick rule of thumb - your unfinished block size is the same as the lining squares size (cut 2) and the drawstring channel strips (width of unfinished block = length of each strip). You need 2 lengths of ribbon or cord for the drawstring that are approximately 2.5 x the width of the pouch (eg - for the 12" pouch, cut 2 lengths each 30" long)
