Foiled again!

My wife was watching Superscrimpers on Channel 4 last night, at the same time I was wondering what to put on my blog today so I thought why not pass on a practical money saving tip which I use all the time.

I am often asked what are the best foiled card and craft metals for die cutting and embossing. There is no easy answer to this question as there are dozens of great products on the market all of which do different jobs. Here is a great way to save money, recycle and achieve fabulous results at the same time.

All you need is an old cereal box, a roll of tin foil, scissors, spray adhesive and a roller of some description, a rolling pin will do just fine.

Cut a piece of tinfoil large enough to cover one panel of an old cereal box and scrunch into a light ball. Flatten out the ball and spray the dull side of the foil with adhesive before attaching to the card and flatten with your rolling pin.

Next, cut a piece of the foiled card to size and die cut your shapes by placing the card foil side down against a Bigz or Originals die (I've used a gorgeous Bigz snowflake from the Nordic Holiday collection) and pass through your Big Shot machine.

Finally, use alcohol inks to add some colour around the edges and mount the snowflakes together. You can now use this on a card, a layout, on a napkin ring, as a tree decoration etc. the creases in the foil make such a difference and give a really unique effect, if you think it cuts well you want to see how it embosses....... but that's a story for another day!

Nordic Style

The shops are filling up with Christmas goodies and decorations as we speak as are our favourite magazines

I'm sure that you have noticed that the whole Nordic theme is very much in vogue and wouldn't be nice to make some nice Nordic style Christmas cards, well the design elves over at the North Pole Sizzix HQ are one step ahead of you.

Here are a couple of cards which appear in the very wonderful Cardmaking & Papercraft Magazine (Issue 110, November) which is in the shops right now. I hope you like them as there are plenty more inside.

The dies and embossing folders come from the Nordic Holiday range which are designed for Sizzix by Basic Grey and they are beyond fabulous but don't take my word for it, check out our website by entering 'Nordic Holiday' into the little search box at the top.
