Saul Bass inspiration for our teachers

Hi everybody!

Here, in a few days the children return to school, teachers meet again and will spend a whole course together. Why not bring a card to wish them a good year?

Since some time I wanted to play with color polypropylene for a funny card making, inspired by the credits for films created by Saul Bass.

And it was really funny create this happy and colorful cards.

¡Hola a todo el mundo!

Aquí, en pocos días los niños regresan a la escuela, los maestros se reúnen de nuevo con ellos y van a pasar un curso entero juntos. ¿Por qué no llevar una tarjeta para desearles un buen año?

Desde hace tiempo quería jugar con polipropileno de color para crear tarjetas divertidas, inspirado en los títulos de crédito para películas que creaba Saul Bass.

Y fue muy divertido crear esta tarjetas tan happy y coloridas.

¡Las adoro! rápido, fácil, divertido y muy cuquis!

Travel voucher

Hello!
A few weeks ago we have been invited to a birthday party and we presented a coupon for a trip to Denmark.
For another invited couple I made an additional coupon for the same trip.

I used different alphabet dies and cut out the german word for voucher/coupon 'GUTSCHEIN'.
I used the same white cardstock as the cardstock for the card, so the letters looks like embossed.

I found the flag of Denmark on the internet, printed it and cut it out with one of the SIZZIX framelits hearts. Finally I add some beads and ribbon.

A masculine layout

Today I fancied doing a layout to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday last year. I can't believe myself that he is 40 already but he certainly is. 

I went for a 6 x 8" layout which is my current favourite. Its not too small and the proportions are just right for me. 

I selected a few dies that i wanted to use which are:

The Butterfly card set comes with several very useful dies. I love the feel of the postage stamp so i designed two for this set that actually work together both nesting and sideways.

No matter which way you want to distribute them the edges match!

I die cut several of the large and small ones out of white card. then I distress them using Pumice Stone ink pad.

My husband does like butterflies but not in feminine colours, so I decided to add a detail but not to obvious. Using the smaller die I embossed using the Sizzix Texturz Silicone Rubber pad and the Sizzix Texturz Impressions Pad. I followed the instructions on the multipurpose platform on how to layer it. Basically Tab 1 - clear cutting plate - die with the cutting side up - card - rubber - Impressions pad.

The effect is pretty unique! I highlighted it with distress inks. I die cut the 40 and the words and glue them. I like to use the foam strips from Stix2 as they come in two small widths and you can cut them to the desired length. Makes live so much easier!

On elf the beauties of this set is that you have matching dies to layer on to top of the postage stamp die cuts. I die cut the photos to match the stamps perfectly, no measuring needed!

I spray some ink on the background and assemble some elements over the edge, and there it was finished:

Its a bit different from my usual pretty and clean style, but I think it is perfect to remember that fabulous day!

Having fun with Balsa wood!

Hi everybody!

Have you ever wondered how you can die cut wood with Big Shot?

Today I want to tell how I like to do; I use balsa wood with Bigz dies. But there’s another surprise: also is possible to texture it with the embossing folders with fantastic results (And I love that!).

With all of this, I created three handmade cards that can be used on many occasions. Want to know how I done?

First I created a background with the Distress Ink and water technique you’ve often seen, but in this occasion I’m using Archival Ink, and alcohol.

I'm using the Bigz die with Texture Fades Buttterfly duo, it's beautiful! And in this case (the card in the center) I'm applying Rusty Hinge Distress Ink and Mustard Seed Distress Stickles.

¿Te has preguntado alguna vez cómo se puede troquelar madera con la Big Shot?

Hoy quiero contaros cómo me gusta hacerlo a mi; yo uso la madera de balsa con los troqueles Bigz. Pero hay otra sorpresa: también es posible darle textura con las carpetas de embossing con resultados fantásticos (y me encanta eso!). 

Con todo esto, he diseñado tres tarjetas que se pueden utilizar en muchas ocasiones ¿Quieres saber como las he hecho?

Primero he creado un fondo con la técnica que muchas veces habrás visto hacer con las tintas distress y agua, pero esta vez usando tinta Archival y alcohol.

He usado el troquel Bigz con carpeta de embossing Buttterfly duo, que es precioso! Y en este caso (para la tarjeta del centro) le he aplicado tinta Distress Rusty Hinge y Distress Stickies Mustard Seed.

A love frame using letters from Tim Holtz Alphabet Sizzix die

A couple of days ago was Valentine's day. That very commercial day. That day many hate. Well, I was one of them, but I think anything that celebrates love, even if it's through a commercial interest, its a good thing.

I decided to make something for my house that celebrated love in an understated way, something that can be there all year round and still look and feel right. A frame with letters A-Z and Love inside seemed a good idea.

I only used two dies, both from Tim Holtz: the Bigz XL Alphabet Die - Block Talk Capital and the Bigz die Heartfelt.

I selected first my frame, with an opening of about 18 x 24 cm.I lay down some letters to see if it fit nicely and they did. I cut to fit in a mixed media card (340 gsm) that I know will work well with paint.  Lay down the letters and space them vertically.

Then I marked the horizontal lines where they should go. I made two per letter, but one was a mistake.
I place then horizontally, arranging them visually. As my aim is to paint them all white, the spacing isn't that essentially perfect, but still.

Once I was on the fourth row I added the letters LOVE with a bit more space in between.
Then To proceed to glue them, I used a ruler as a guide and glue the left border ones as well as the right ones.

To make sure the spacing was as good as possible, I then glued the centre ones of each row. Finally I glue the rest. I then glued more layers of letters a bit random. to create some with more height than others.

Actually, I rather like it with the white and Kraft. But, still went ahead with my plan"

Paint it all with white acrylic paint. 

Then I die cut again the word love using a page from an old book. I also die cut the heart and attach it with wet glue.

Finally I painted the frame with gold and silver acrylic spray paint and assembled it.
