Super Simple Glitter Brooches

I went to my fabric stash for this week's make and decided to try a DIY with some glitter fabric I've had for a while! I adore the heart dies so want to share how I made a super simple glitter brooch.

I cut out 2 hearts in glitter fabric and 2 in felt to stabilize the glitter fabric.

I used a hot glue gun to secure the glitter fabric to the felt and then added the brooch backs with hot glue too.

How cute are they when complete?! Such a simple make as it only takes a few minutes!

Here's a list of the items I used to make the glitter heart brooches:

Sizzix Bigz Die - Tribal Hearts
Sizzix Mint Cutting Pads
Glitter Fabric
Felt
Brooch Backs

Stamp n' Stencil

They say that we only use 10% of our brains, or 5% in my case as many would argue! Sometimes I feel the same about die-cutting. There is so much potential which remains untapped so I thought It would be nice to share a couple of techniques which I haven't used for ages.

I am using  the Bigz Heart Trio die. This is one of eight fabulous Bigz dies that have been designed for Sizzix by Echo Park which are perfect for a huge range of applications, I know that Angela, our textile guru is very excited about them!

I love the shapes of these hearts and they are so big and bold offering a blank canvas ready to be explored. I am using a selection of Distress inks as shown below and at this point I only have a sketchy idea of how they will turn out.

I attached some self adhesive foam to a square of mount board and Die-cut my shape... Aren't Bigz dies great!!!
I applied the ink pads directly onto the foam side of the die-cut shape before gently spritzing with clean water using a mister. Next, I pressed the shape face down onto a square of white card as one would do with a stamp.
For my next technique I die-cut the same heart from paper and used the negative as a stencil. I placed the stencil onto white card and applied the same inks using foam applicators.
I removed the stencil and lightly spritzed with clean water before drying with a heat tool. Next, I replaced the stencil and used a text stamp to add a little detail.
Finally, I die-cut a 3-D flower and some leafy foliage from white card before forming the flower and curling the leaves to add a little dimension. Click on the highlighted text to see the dies used.

Here are the finished cards. As you can see I have distressed the edges of the white card and attached each to a kraft base card secured with some suitably wonky stitching very kindly provided by our Angela although I feel I should point out that the 'wonky' stitching was by my request!

I applied PVA to the foliage and dipped it in gold glitter and I used a postmark sentiment stamp from the good people at Lily of the Valley (great set, very versatile!)

One card is for a wedding and the other for a special birthday girl. Hope they like 'em?

the Wedding gift....

Hi there,

do you remember the wedding card i showed you weeks ago?
Tomorrow is the big day - my boss will get married.

And of course the bureau collected some money for a gift.
But what to give, if the couple already owns everything???

So we decided to give the money - but only packed in an envelope?

Never...

I made a little kitschy frame of it.

All you need is:
Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit (White & Gray)
(out of this: Thinlits Plus Die Set (Basic Shapes) and
Bigz L Die (Everyday Essentials))
Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Alphabet Die - Alphabetical
a frame
some banknotes

First i fold all the banknotes into hearts (yes, again hearts  ;-)
How to do this, is shown here.

Than i laid them into one big heart in the frame.

Then i put some decoration all around.
I used the Thinlits Plus Die Set (Basic Shapes) and the Bigz L Die (Everyday Essentials)
out of the  Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit (White & Gray)

Ready....

Have a great weekend,, Stephanie

*****

Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit (White & Gray)
(daraus: Thinlits Plus Die Set (Basic Shapes) und
Bigz L Die (Everyday Essentials))
Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Alphabet Die - Alphabetical
einen Bilderrahmen
Geldnoten

fertig.

Habt ein schönes Wochenende
Liebste Grüße, Steffi

Summer bag inspired by Chelsea Flower Show

I love going to the quilt shows, and seeing all the amazing quilts and seeing lots of lovely new fabrics. This year I only managed to see a few of the quilts as I wasn't well and so didn't go to the show early - but I did manage to see some of the winners and some of the quilts on my way in.
As always I'm impressed by the skill and originality of the quilts on display, and the wonderful mix of colour.
So now I'm enjoying watching the Chelsea Flower Show - I love the vibrant colours and mass of different shapes of the flowers - so it may not surprise you to see that my project this week involves flowers
I found some beautiful wool felt on Margaret Fox Floral Arts (https://www.floralcraftsupplies.co.uk/Margaret-Fox-Home  stand at Malvern - and decided to make this little bag with floral decoration.
For the bag I cut -
2 pieces of pink felt 24cm x 20cm (9 1/2" x 8") for the bag
2 pieces of pink floral fabric 24cm x 22cm (9 1/2" x 9") for the bag lining
2 pieces of pieces of pink floral 34cm x 6cm (13" x 2 1/2") bag handles
Using the Big Shot Machine and Bigz dies -Heartfelt 660233
Flowers, Layers and Leaves 657690
and Flower layers #13
I cut out and assortment of flowers and hearts in felt and the pink floral fabric.

To make the bag I curved the bottom edges of the felt and fabric bag pieces.
Then on one of the pieces of felt I arranged the flowers, and took a photo -
so that I could remove the felt flowers and stitch on the fabric flowers -
I used a large irregular running stitch to secure the flowers, and frayed some of the edges using a nail file.
I then stitched the felt flowers in place with a central button, and the hearts with small stitches along themed line.
Then I pinned the 2 felt pieces together, with the flowers innermost, and stitched the sides and bottom together ( a 6mm/1/4" seam allowance), and turned it right side out.
I stitched the bag lining in the same way, but left an opening in the bottom to allow for turning.
The bag straps were folded in half down the length, wrong sides together, and a 6mm/1/4" seam allowance was press along each long side, and one end was pressed to create a point. The straps were then stitched along the fold.
I pinned the straps to each side of the bag -
and then put the lining over the  bag, Right sides together, and pinned the top edges together. When the edge was stitched the bag was turned right side out, and the opening in the lining was stitched together.
To finish the bag, the lining was tucked inside and the lining showed as a border around the top of the bag, I pinned and then stitched the bag and the lining together along the seam line.
Tie the straps together and the bag is ready for use.
I think this is a great little bag to a summer party, or for a little girl.
I hope you've enjoyed this project - and as Chelsea is always a sea of colour I'm just playing with another project -

I'm not sure that I like the colour for the cushion - but I think a few more flowers and then some leaves and stems - either in ribbon or embroidery will look great.
So until next week - keep enjoying your sewing ( and Chelsea if you like flowers)

Sweet pastel card

Hi Crafter!
Today I feel like so many fresh colors, to hang in the kids room.
I chose the tree and the butterfly because they also represent life.
The tree is the strength, the structure, while the butterfly is lightness and freedom.

I like it a card to stick on the showcase or rest on the library.
It gives a designer touch. Or….PAPER ART!

NECESSARY:
- Sizzix  - 657697 Dena design - Tree & Heart
- Cardstock or paper scrap
- foam board tape
- Stick glue

Have a lovely week!

Manuela
Pasticci di carta

*per i lettori italiani*

Ciao crafter!

NECESSARY:
- Sizzix  - 657697 Dena design - Tree & Heart
- Cartoncini colorati o carta scrap
- scotch con spessore
- colla stick

Una buona settimana a tutti!

Succulents Corner (Happy 5 de Mayo!)

Hi everybody!

I must confess that I didn't know May 5 is celebrated in some countries, like the US, the Mexican pride day. But when I knew a few days ago, I thought: how can I celebrate?.... It had to be with some cactus decorating home: I love them!

Using the wonderful Craft Asylum Tribal Hearts Bigz (is a heart... what can I say!) , the Big Shot Plus starter kit box (with the lid cut off), some balsa wood, acrylic paint and a few glasses I built a small corner of succulents decorating home and celebrate 5 de Mayo

It is really easy to do and looks nice right?

Be Happy!!

--------------------
