My very first step was to die cut the bag. 

By the original Bag belongs a flap which I removed so

I can create my own (hand)bag.

I added two strings which I used for the handles.

This is how it looks like the original

I distressed the edges with green ink pad and prepared my embellies.

I used the matching Circles die to die cut the "present" and I 

coloured it in with Copic markers.

I love that Daisy die - no wonder I often use it on my projects :-)

Gift Box and Card

Hi Sizzix fans! Anna here with a Sizzix project.

Today I'm showing you a simple gift idea. This little box is really easy to make and so lovely! Inside there are crayons for a boy, but you can fill with chocolates for an Easter treat.

 

 

To create the box you need the great Sizzix Bigz XL Box & Card by Stephanie Ackerman and a pair of Extended Cutting Pads. I also die cut a Card using the die of that name. The box is embellished with a window circle made with Framelits.

 

 

 

To create the box:

Die-cut from patterned paper and apply double-sided tape to the two long side flaps.

Fold all crease lines in the same direction. Fold the front of the Box to meet the back of the Box and adhere along the side flaps.

Insert the gift and apply a piece of washi tape. Wrap the box several times with twine.

 

 

To create the tag:

Cut out a card from cardstock with XL die.

Let a few drops of spray ink. Re-use the circle that you have cut out in the box and apply. Stamp and die-cut the sentiment with Thinlits set and apply with foam board tape.

Adhere a mini tag with stapler and staples.

Embellish with sequins and paper clip.

 

This die is so versatile and my mind is overflowing with ideas for this cute little die, from a crayon box to Wedding favors, Easter Treat and just about everything in between. I love that I can use bits and pieces of this die and adapt it to fit any holiday or occasion.

Ciao a tutti gli amici di Sizzix! Sono Anna e sono qui per condividere un veloce tutorial usando le fustelle Sizzix.

Oggi vi mostro, infatti, un'idea regalo carina e semplice. Vedrete che questa scatolina è davvero facile da fare!

All'interno ci sono dei pastelli a cera, da regalare ad un bambino, ma si può riempire benissimo con cioccolatini per un pensierino per la prossima Pasqua.

Per creare la scatolina è necessario avere la splendida Sizzix Bigz XL Box & Card by Stephanie Ackerman ed un paio di piani di taglio lunghi. La fustella taglia qualunque tipo di cartoncino, anche spesso, segnando ogni piega per facilitare il montaggio. Con la stessa fustella ho tagliato anche una piccola card. La scatolina è impreziosita da una finestra rotonda, realizzata grazie alle fustelle Framelits.

Per creare la scatolina:

Fustellare la struttura usando una carta scrap e applicare colla o biadesivo per i due lembi laterali lunghi.

Piegare tutte le parti già segnate. Piegare la parte anteriore della scatola in modo da combaciare con il retro e incollare lungo le alette laterali.

Inserire il dono (pastelli, confetti, cioccolatini...) e applicare un pezzo di washi tape a scopo decorativo. Avvolgere lo spago intorno alla scatolina più volte e frae un fiocco.

Per creare la tag:

Con la stessa fustella, tagliare una card dal cartoncino prescelto.

Lasciate cadere qualche goccia di colori vari. Riutilizzare il cerchio che si è ritagliato in precedenza per creare la finestra della scatolina ed incollare. Timbrare e fustellare il "sentiment" con il set di Thinlits e incollare sopra al cerchio con scotch spessorato.

Applicare una mini tag con la graffettatrice.

Infine, abbellire con paillettes e graffetta.

Questa fustella è davvero versatile, tanto che ho in mente diverse idee per utilizzarla, dalle bomboniere a piccolissimi album accordion. Vedrete che potrete adattarla ad ogni tipo di ricorrenza o di occasione.

Setting the table

With Valentines just round the corner, this month I chose a rather lovely bundle of Cotton and Steel blenders paired with some Kona Snow and the Equilateral Triangle Die (658663) with my Big Shot machine.

I'm not one for making a huge deal out of Valentines, but with the new year has come a renewed effort to rid my home of clutter.  Its working!  The easiest spot to de-cluttered was the table, often found piled with papers, laptop, post, handbag, ... you get the picture.  So what better than to celebrate with a new table runner.

I had a rough plan, which I mapped out on EQ7, so I knew to cut 22 patterned triangles and 70 background.  To manage my time and fabrics easier, I cut 5" strips from my fat quarters of cotton and steel, and the same again across the width of fabric for the background.  This meant I could manage the fabric cuts to maximize yield.

you can get 7 triangles from one FQ strip or 14 from a full width of fabric strip.  Layer up your fabrics and position them just over the previous cut line with each pass through the machine.

I started by making background half hexi's from 3 triangles. a total of 22 of these. 

then laid everything out, to piece patterned triangles to the half hexi's and then into strips. Once you have 2 strips, joint these together. 

Trim the ends, ensuring you have 1/4" beyond the points for seam allowance.

measure your top, add borders, mine were 4" finished, layer up, and quilt as desired. 

Of course the pattern creates the perfect opportunity for some fancy quilting!

I trimmed up the runner after quilting and used the left overs from the fat quarters and the 2 1/2" strip die (658328) to cut my strips for a scrappy binding.

I'm really pleased with the result, and its making it easier to keep the table clear too!

Autumn Leaves - Modern Maples

Hi everyone, Trudi here from Quilting Prolifically.   Now the clocks have gone back, it really does feel like autumn, with dark evenings and blustery days.  The trees are hanging on to the last of their leaves in defiance of the seasons.  This has inspired me, along with all the bloggers and IG quilters doing a Modern Maples quilt.

I got to thinking, as you do, I bet I can do most of the hard work with my Sizzix Big Shot.  So after a delve into my stash, I managed to pull a nice selection of autumnal feeling fabrics, and a white on cream to go nicely with them for the background.  This is a great project if you want to bust your scraps too!

Next up was to check for dies, for this project I used the following:

657613 4 1/2" finished Half Square Triangle Bigz die

For each block you need the following:

background fabrics  1 Square, 6 HSTs
Leaf Fabrics  3 Squares, 4 HSTs, 1 strip 1 1/2" x 7"

I cut 1 1/2" strips, but these could easily be cut with the Bigs XL 1 1/2" strip die (658327 ) and multiples cut from the width of fabric strips, or even scraps.

Once all the cutting was done, it didn't take long to sew all my stem blocks.  To ensure I had the half square triangles lined up centrally, I folded each in half along the long edge (be careful not to stretch as this is a bias edge), then finger pressed a small crease to indicate the center of the piece.  I repeated this with the stem pieces.  By matching the folds, the pieces can be joined and centered easily.

These stems are over sized, so rather than trimming each one with my rotary cutter and square ruler, I used the square die, centering the stem with the corners of the square on the die.  This saved loads of time, and also saved my wrists too!

The half square triangles are sewn together one background and one leaf fabric, with a 1/4" seam are perfectly sized with the other elements of the block.  I chain pieced mine, and the job was soon done and I was ready to assemble my blocks.  I pressed my seams to the darker fabric of the leaf fabrics so they wouldn't show through the lighter background fabric.

Piece the blocks as below into rows first

and then join the rows together to complete the block

If you are making multiple blocks I would work with one color at a time, unless you are going for the scrappy look.  These blocks are 12 1/2" unfinished.

When all your blocks are pieced, a good press and you are ready to plan your layout.  There are so many options, I have had fun playing around with mine, adding in some blanks as if they are blowing around on the wind.  I still have some playing to do with the final layout.

I am looking forward to quilting this one, with an organic swirl that will add more movement I hope. I'll let you know how I get on!  Hopefully very soon, as I would like this to be a tick off my Christmas present list!

This is such a versatile pattern, whilst I have chosen a pallet that speaks autumn colours to me, it lends itself to so much variety.  What colours would you use? Why not give the block a go and show us your results.  I'm considering giving them a try with 2 1/2" squares and half Square triangles for 6 1/2" unfinished blocks, what do you think?

Owl sweet Owl

Hello everyone! Anna here to share some fun owls with you using the Sizzix Owl Bag Bigz XL Die by Lori Whitlock.

I’ll be showing a cute owl gift basket. It's a really cute bag and I think this would look great in a Halloween theme or Christmas too.

 

Since the die cut out more materials, I wanted to try use felt to create a sewing kit. A simple little stitching project for a beginner stitcher, or gift for a beginner!

Die-cut an Owl Bag and its embellishments out of patterned papers. Emboss one scallop piece. Fold along the crease lines to assemble, layering materials and adhere (Instructions: Download PDF). Embellish with ribbon bow and twine.

Die-cut two Owl shape and its embellishments out of felt. To make the front: layering materials and sew or glue. To make the back: fold in middle a felt rectangle and sew. The felt pages are for needles and stuff. With your scissors in place, check the position of your Scissor Pocket. Sew front and back together in the bottom side. Embellish with ribbon bow and twine. If you want add a button to close.

 

I love how customizable this is, and you can use scrap that you already have. You can also use the owl shape on a card front or scrapbook page.

Ciao a tutti! Anna è qui per condividere alcuni simpatici Gufetti realizzati grazie alla fustella “Sizzix Owl Bag Bigz XL Die” disegnata da Lori Whitlock.

Con questa fustella ho realizzato due cosine, perchè è sempre bello guardare le fustelle con occhi diversi: una simpatica scatolina regalo (scopo per cui è nata la fustella) e un kit cucito in feltro, il tutto a forma di gufo!

La scatolina è molto carina e credo che potrà essere usata da molte di voi per creare bomboniere o declinarla in tema Halloween o Natale. Vi ricordo, che essendo una fustella di tipo XL, necessita dei cutting pad più lunghi.

Poi, come vi dicevo, dal momento che la fustella di tipo Bigz taglia diversi materiali, ho voluto provare ad usare anche il feltro e la stoffa per creare un Kit da Cucito. Un piccolo semplice progetto di cucito, adatto anche ad una principiante od un regalo per una aspirante sartina! ;)

Per fare entrambi i progetti ho scelto di usare colori simili, così da farvi vedere le differenze tra i materiali e le potenzialità della fustella. Inoltre il kit cucito può essere riposto dentro la scatolina gufo, se la si vuole regalare, un'accoppiata perfetta! :)

Anche se dalle foto si intuisce, vi spiego comunque come ho fatto...

Fustellare una scatolina gufo e i suoi abbellimenti da carta fantasia. Embossare una delle strisce scallop per dare maggior varietà. Piegare lungo le linee di cordonatura per assemblare la scatolina e incollare. Sovraporre e incollare i vari pezzi sul fronte della scatola (istruzioni complete qui: Download PDF). Infine abbellire con un fiocco e due fiorellini.

Fustellare due forme grandi di Gufo con feltro spesso e le sue decorazioni con feltro sottile. Per fare il fronte: sovraporre e fissare i vari pezzi con cuciture o colla a caldo. Cucire parzialmente la sagoma gufo più piccola su quella grande, in modo da creare una taschina utile per riporre qualche materiale da cucito. Per fare il retro: piegare a metà un piccolo rettangolo di feltro e cucire. Le pagine di feltro così create, serviranno per riporre aghi e spille. Sistemando le forbicine, controllare la posizione dove fissare il nastro che le terrà ferme. Cucire il fronte con il retro lungo il lembo inferiore, creando così un libro-gufo di feltro. Abbellire il fronte con un fiocco e due fiorellini tagliati con la fustella. Se si desidera, aggiungere un bottone come chiusura.

 

Con questa fustella potete creare lavori come questi, personalizzati a piacere. Inoltre non è necessario avere tanti materiali, basta utilizzare gli avanzi, soprattutto per i dettagli.
Altri usi: provate ad utilizzare la sagoma del Gufo su di una card, un mini album o una pagina scrap ecc. ;)

Spool quilt

Hi! Here it´s Mercedes again in her second post. Go for it.

Do you remember the spool I did before ? Ok, here it´s what I have done , a nice coloful  and spring spool quilt with a touch of vintage. 

As I said before, I sew a short white lace in the middle of the spool and now I have add  another more for the border. Really I love  the effect of this quick quilt that I have done using Sizzix dies.

First I sew the spool block, a total of 15 units. I told you  here . Don´t forget to add the lace in the cental block before to sew  to the top and botton of the spool .

Then, I cut  the rectangles pieces to do the outside border. Just sew them one to other  alternating different fabrics. You need to do  it for the four borders. 

So , sew the  spool blocks. I did three across together changing the direction of each spool and continued adding four more rounds . Be careful with that directions. Finally you get three blooks across and five down. 

Now it´s the time to add around  the 2  1 /2 " border  ( 2" finished ) with the lace. Put the lace between the top and the fabric border and sew all together. You can use pins  if you want .

Sew the previous rectangles that were  sewn together and prepare the sandwitch for the out side border.

Quilt as  you prefer. I did two different ways, one for the spool and border  and other for the back in white fabric and rectangles. 

I used the same vichi fabric for the binding.

It´s great how  quick you can do this kind of quilt using the dies. Before you think you are quilting  it !!

My quilt is 29" x 40"

¡Hola! Aquí de nuevo Mercedes  en su  segundo artículo. Vamos a por ello. ¿Os acordáis  el bloque con forma de bobina que hice la semana pasada? Os comenté que estaba preparando un quilt y ya lo tenéis aquí, un alegre y primaveral  quilt de carretes con un toque vintage.

Como os dije antes, cosí una puntilla en el medio del carrete , en la parte superior e inferior y ahora he añadido otra más al borde. Me encanta el efecto final de este rápido quilt  gracias a  los troqueles de Sizzix que hacen el trabajo  de corte más sencillo..

 Vamos a ver los materiales y cómo lo he montado.

Telas  de  distintos estampados en colores pastel

Tela blanca, para el fondo.

82cm  tela y guata para la trasera

1.75 cm de puntilla blanca estrecha para los carretes

2.40 cm de puntilla blanca ancha para el borde

Hilo Güterman blanco  de algodón del 40 para acolchar

Primero cosí los bloques carrete , con un total de 15. Te lo conté aquí. No olvides añadir la puntilla antes de coser la parte de arriba y de abajo del carrete..

Luego corté rectángulos para el borde exterior. Cóselo unos a otros  alternando los estampados.. Necesitas un total de cuatro  bordes

Cose los bloques de los carretes unos a otros  en un total de tres por  tira. Luego añade otra más y así hasta un total de 3 bloques por 5. Corta  el borde de tela de cuadritos de 2 1/2 “ de ancha y cose alrededor junto con la puntilla ancha.Colócala entre el top y la tira del borde. Puedes usar alfileres para sujetar.

Cose a ese borde las tiras de los rectángulos cosidos previamente y prepara el sandwich con la guata para acolchar.

Acolcha como quieras. Yo usé dos acolchados distintos, uno para los carretes  y el borde de tela vichí , haciendo  curvitas que de vez en cuando se retorcían y otro  en curvitas solo para el fondo en la tela blanca y en el borde exterior de rectángulos.

Es estupendo ver lo rápido que puedes montar el quilt  y cómo estás acolchando antes de que te des cuenta.
