Splashes, strips and rippings :)

Hi,It's me and my new project for you!
Last weeks were very busy for me - a lot of travelling and teaching, meeting people, gathering and sharing inspiration. Oh, how i love classes:)
During one of the weekends - at Stockholm ScrapClass event in Sweden - I've created the project showed below - based on mixed-media techniques and using lots, lots of Sizzix cut outs:

As you can see Sizzlits Decorative Strips  were used not only for cutting out pieces for decoration but also masking the background. I love the effects you can achieve this way - perfect matching elements both on the paper and between the layers under the photo!

I couldn't help myself and found some space to add some doily cut-outs too - I simply love ripping them into pieces and adding to my project as extra texture!

Here you can find the links to the Sizzix Dies I used for this layout:
- Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die - Harlequin Border (657825)
- Sizzix Thinlits Die - Doily (659068)

All the other products are from Prima Marketing - mostly my Resist Canvas collection - Elementals, Vintage Vanity background stamps and papers from A4 Journaling Paper Pad.

Sending you best wishes - see you soon!

Halloween Bat Softie

Hi Everyone! This is Anna.

It's Friday which means it's Sizzix project on the UK blog!
With Halloween just around the corner, Sizzix come up trumps with plenty of items and ideas for you.
Today I have been playing with my felts, fabrics and two of the Sizzix dies. I thought I'd do a little bat for Halloween, but I didn't know how to create the wings. I' ve got an idea: use the tree shape Sizzix Bigz Die - Christmas Trees, 3-D (658754)!!!
These bats are surprisingly quick to make so I hope you’ll enjoy the project! :)

I had the idea for this one, based on my chicks, and I couldn’t resist making it too!

If you'd like to make one of these, I've put together some brief instructions here:

Items used:

Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (658300) machine + dies
Sizzix Bigz Die - Christmas Trees, 3-D (658754)
Sizzix Bigz Die - Owl #2 (657694)

black or grey felt
white and pink felt scraps
scraps of fabric to decorate
black buttons
polyester stuffing
sewing machine & basic sewing supplies (scissors, thread, needle, etc.)
hot glue

cafe creativo - Anna Drai - sizzix big shot - owl bat halloween felt (5)

How to make:

1- Begin to cut out the pieces of your bat using Bigz Die - Owl #2 (657694). Cut out also two circles for eyes with die of Starter kit and the bat wings with Bigz Die - Christmas Trees, 3-D (658754) and cut out a little white star to make two teeth.
Make sure you cut two pieces for the bat's body and for the eyes and the wings, too.
2- Now it's time to sew! We'll begin with the eyes, sew the outline. Sew the buttons and the teeth.
3- Now it's time to sew our little bat together. Take a wing, trap it between the pieces for the front and the back, and pin it. Now do the same to other wing.
Sew around the edge of the bat, leaving a gap at the bottom.
4- Stuff the bat with fluff. Sew together the gap. Then add the heart.

And, there you have it! You are ready to celebrate Halloween without much hassle! Isn't this so cute? It is perfect as a gift for kids.
Thanks for stopping by today!  I am thrilled to be sharing this simple Halloween project :)

Flag_of_Italy Per le amiche italiane! :)
Ciao!

Poi all'improvviso l'illuminazione!

Materiali:

Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (658300) machine + dies

feltro nero o grigio
ritagli di feltro bianco, fucsia
ritagli di stoffa per decorazioni
bottoni neri differenti
ovatta sintetica
colla a caldo

Procedimento:

Cucire sopra i bottoni.

Scrappy hexagons

As you  may have realised I'm really excited about hexagons at the moment, but I don't always have as much time as I would like to complete something - so I have used a quick, maybe a cheats, way of doing hexagons..
I also wanted to create something quite different to the traditional pieced hexagons that I'm also working on - so I used a jelly roll for the hexagons to create the scrappy look. I used the Bigz die 658317 to cut the hexagons - you can cut up to 32 hexagons in one go - how good is that!!
I fused some web onto a backing fabric and then placed the hexagons in place and fused them into place - you have to be careful when placing them so that they fit together well and there are no gaps between them.
As you may see the blue with yellow swirls needs adjusting to that it butts up against it's neighbours.
This is a really quick way to create a hexagon patchwork and when fused in place I stitched around the hexagons with luminous pink ( luminous threads are very popular at the moment) to complete the look.

You could make a whole quilt like this if you wanted - but you would probably need to make it in sections as it would be quite difficult to stitch a complete piece in one go.
So what am I making - you'll need to look in again next week to find out.

Bye for now.
Angela

Halloween Fun (Part 2)

By the time this post is published I will be landing in Slovenia, where I am teaching a series of workshops in the historic and picturesque city of Ljubljana which is very exciting for me as it is a place that I have never visited before, I promise to let you know all about it next week.

I hope you liked the Frankenstein card last week, if so here are a few more ideas using many of the same dies and techniques. To make the Wolfman card I used the Ornate and Pennants On the Edge dies alongside my trusty Framelits Circle #2 set. The card used is the BoBunny Double Dot card.

I started by trimming a 13cm wide rectangle of Orange card to size using both blades of the Ornate On the Edge die. Next, I trimmed it to size with a pair of scissors and tried it for size against a rectangle of brown card (10 x 15cm). I made the teeth using the pennants die and attached them to the face along with a 10cm wide rectangle of brown card representing the chin.

The next job was to trim the base of the chin using the other blade on the pennants die. After die cutting and assembling the eyes using the Framelits circles I added them to the card along with the top of the head which was attached using 3D foam pads. To create the ears and nose I used an old favourite technique. I die cut a circle from the orange paper, folded it in half and placed the die back onto it cutting two leaf shapes. These were attached to each side of the head forming the ears. The base card was created from ivory card stock and I rounded off the corners using my trusty Corner Chomper.

Here is the finished card and below are a couple more, I was having so much fun I couldn't stop myself!

The Mummy was a collection of distressed paper strips and die cut circles, the teeth were made using the Plaque & Postage On the Edge die

The vampires hair was die cut using the Brackets On the Edge die and the fangs using the same Pennants die used above

Here is the complete set. Using these few simple ideas and techniques is a great way to have fun with die cutting and it really opens up a new world of creative possibilities.

Have Fun!!!

You Are the Best

Hi All!

Daria is here. And today for my post I created a layout! This layout is about my daughter. She was so sweet when she was a little girl. I love these photos.

I used light yellow cardstock, stencil with hearts and Pan Pastel to create background. And of course I used different dies to make my layout looks more interesting.

Items used:
Big Shot Machine (657900)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK w/Stamps - Banners #2 (658696)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 9PK - Tags #2 (658611)
Sizzix Thinlits Die - Frame, Fancy Rectangle (658948)
Sizzix On the Edge Die - Distressed Doily (657496)
Sizzix Framelits Die Set 9PK w/Stamps - Word Labels (658701)

I love to cut doilies from vellum. It makes doilies so airy. Also I used stamps from Word Labels dies set to create a titles of my layout.

Have a nice day!

Daria.

Word Labels.

3D Christmas tree tag

Hi everybody! Now that we are almost in November is time to start thinking of Christmas projects. Today I want to show you a 3D Christmas Tag that can be used as a gift tag but also as an ornament.

Supply list:
  • Adhesive pearls
  • Double sided tape, foam Squares
I love this 3D Christmas Tree die from Brenda Walton. It is very easy to create something really amazing with it. You just have to die cut 3 little trees, fold them (They already have the scoring line!) and glue them together.

Here you can see the 3D details. I love the final result!

Happy Monday!
...................

¡Feliz lunes!

a quilt for a boy

A friend of mine has just had a little baby boy. In my house there seem to be an awful lot of quilt tops lying around ready to be quilted that are perfect for little girls...but not for little boys. So this weekend I set about making a simple zig zag quilt using the tutorial I posted a while ago for a 2-hour quilt top. This 6" finished square die is for the big shot pro, which I know not many of you own. The biggest half square triangle die for the normal big shot machine is the 5" (which when sewn into a quilt makes a 4.5" square). You would need to make your quilt 8 rows of 8 squares to make one the same size (mine is  6 x 6).

@artgalleryfabrics zig zags

I used 7 of the prints from this stack below, because I wanted a small, square quilt that would be useful as a playmat and small enough to use in the car or pram. It will finish at 36" square once I've got those blocks sewn together, which is a really nice baby quilt size.

I'll get this finished today and sew the binding on tonight so I can take it to my friend tomorrow and meet the little baby for the first time. I think it'll be the last baby any of my friends have, most of our children are older and we're all done with the baby stage. That's a little sad, isn't it?

Added a couple more prints. Think I'm happy now.
