Creating Curves - part two

Hi, Trudi here from Quilting Prolifically. So last month I made a great start on my curves, not curves quilt.

18 of these Shoo Fly blocks done, and I was well on my way to getting the other 18 alternate blocks done too!

This second block is made up of nine patch of 4 1/2" squares.  Plain squares in the corners, and squares made with the Isosceles Triangle die, and 2 1/2" Half Square Triangles to make the center square in square block.

Alternate the blocks in the lay out and hey presto  ... its starting to take shape!

I barely had enough space on my living room floor to lay this out, So to piece it, I gathered up the rows, stacking the blocks in order and taking them out to my sewing machine in my studio in the garden.  

(one sure way to get your daily step quota up!)

As I pieced the rows, I laid them over the long arm, then pieced the rows together.

I've added a plain border, and this is now ready to quilt.  

The curves are already visible in the pattern, and not one curve has been sewn.  

I'm hoping that a little (ok, maybe a lot) of custom quilting in those areas will really enhance the curved effect.  

Remember, this whole quilt, that is now 82" square, is made from scraps.  I did cut some yardage for the outer border and some of the white areas, but it is all a mish mash of white on whites and very low volume fabrics. 

So if you have a large pile of scraps, and fancy making your own version of this quilt, these are the dies I used along with my Big Shot Plus:

My Ohio Quilt : the beginning

Hi everyone!! I´m a  star quilt lover and I was wishing to do a new one with the  traditional Ohio Star , very familiar between quilters. Well, when I saw  the new collection by Erin Turner  "Aesop's Fable" I could´t resist  and I bought some fabrics ( just some 1/2 and 1/4  yards ) Here it´s my selection. Love these red prints.
So this was a good opportunity to try the ohio star block!

I used the big square  die  4 " finished ( 4 1/2" Unfinished)   and  a die with four triangles  ( Triangles, 2 1/2 " H x 4 1/2" W unfinished ). Both match together  perfectly when  you sew the triangles to make a square. You can cut out until six layers!

I cut out squares and triangles in cream and print fabric.This is  the block before you sew all the pieces.  I love how quick you can get them  with the  Big Shot , now with the new model in white, much bigger!

Then I sew a pair of cream and red  triangle.

Now all the squares together.

And finally in a row.

I  have got  six blocks right now and ready more to sew.

I don´t know how much will be the  quilt size.I will spend all the fabrics and I hope I can get a nice quilt .

I love my free time sewing this block  and I´m sure I will show you more later.

¡Hola a todo el mundo!Soy una apasionada de los quilts con estrellas y estaba deseando hacer uno con  el tradicional Ohio Star , muy familiar entre las quilters.Bien, pues cuando vi la nueva colección de Erin Turner “ Aesop’s Fable” , no lo pude resistir y quedé prendada. Así que compré algunas telas. En las fotos veis la selección que hice. Suficiente para hacer un quilt, algunos medios y cuartos de tela.Me encantan estos estampados en rojo , de modo que fue una oportunidad estupenda para probar este bloque.

Utilicé el troquel de cuadrado grande    ( 4 " finished ( 4 1/2" Unfinished)   y  otro con cuatro triángulos   four triangles  ( Triangles, 2 1/2 " H x 4 1/2" W unfinished ) .Ambos combinan fenomenal entre sí cuando coses los triángulos  y los conviertes en cuadrado.

Corté los cuadrados y los triángulos en tela crema y en los estampados de la colección.En la foto grande podéis ver cómo quedan dispuestos antes de coserlos. Me gusta mucho lo rápido que puedes tenerlos cortados con la troqueladora Big Shot ( hasta seis capas de tela de una vez ) ,  ahora con el nuevo modelo en blanco ¡ mucho más grande!

Cosí primero las parejas de triángulos hasta hacer un cuadrado y luego todos los cuadrados juntos.Finalmente en filas hasta dejar el bloque acabado.

De momento tengo seis acabados y más preparados para seguir cosiendo.

Realmente no sé cómo será el quilt de grande pero gastaré todas las telas y espero que quede un buen tamaño.

Disfruto mucho en mi tiempo libre  cosiendo este bloque así que espero no tardar mucho en mostrados más avances.

A nordic quilt: the beginning

Hi everyone! I come back with a new quilt . This time I have choose some of the Ikea cotton fabric I had in my stack long time ago . I love these stripes and the color combo.
I found a nice cream fleece fabric in my local fabric store last winter. It looked like perfect for the backing of a warm quilt. I wanted a quilt made of big blocks.
I used again these dies:

Sizzix Bigz Die - Square, 4" Finished (4 1/2" Unfinished)

Sizzix Bigz Die - Half-Square Triangles, 4 1/2" Finished Square

After  the selection I had a lot of triangles  and squares cut out.

I sew  the pieces as I liked in blocks of three or four in a row......

........ and some blocks bigger.

My idea is now cut out big rectangles  and sew to these blocks.

Then I will use the soft fleece fabric  (  you can see it under the blocks done )  as backing and I will do a tie quilt. 

I hope I can finished this next week and enjoy a nordic style quilt just on time for holidays.

¡Hola a todo el mundo ¡ Hoy regreso con un nuevo quilt. Esta vez he elegido algunas de las telas que tenía guardadas de Ikea de una de sus pasadas colecciones. Me encantas esas rayas y la combinación de los tonos.

En la tienda de retales de mi localidad  donde suelo comprar, encontré el invierno pasado una estupenda tela  de borreguillo muy finito  que podía servir como trasera para un cálido quilt..

Quería hacer bloques grandes así que corté con los troqueles  de cuadrados y triángulos.

Después de la selección ya tenía un montón cortado y listo para coser.

Hice bloques de tres y de cuatro combinando telas. También algunos bloques más grades hechos de dos filas.

Mi idea es cortar rectángulos grandes y coserlos a estos bloques. Luego añadir la guata de borreguillo como trasera y  sujetar el sandwich  atándolo con rabitos de lana o hilo de algodón  para que todo quede sujeto.

Espero acabarlo para la próxima semana y tener un quilt de estilo nórdico listo para las fiestas.
