Newish - Kaleidoscope die

Now it's October and the days are shorter it's time to look at some of our latest dies before starting on Christmas projects.

This week I'm showing the Kaleidoscope die - 660182, its not the latest die but I haven't used it yet -  http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/660182/sizzix-bigz-l-die-kaleidoscope-6-1-2-assembled

I can remember as a child being fascinated with a kaleidoscope viewer, and would look at it for a long time - this doesn't have quite the versatility - but with the use of different colours you will be able to create a diverse pattern.

For this blog I am only using 4 fabrics because it is just to show how the die shapes create the pattern.

For each block you will need  25 x13cm/10" x 5" of fabrics 1 and 2 and 18 x 9cm/7" x 3 1/2" of fabric 3

Using the die and the Big Shot (http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/660200/sizzix-big-shot-machine-only-white-gray) or Big Shot plus (http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/660020/sizzix-big-shot-plus-machine-only-white-gray) cut 4 large triangles from fabrics 1 and 2, and cut 4 small triangles in fabric 3 -

(the small triangle is a lighter blue - but doesn't show up too well on this background) 

Join the large triangles together in pairs-

 

 

then join the pairs together -

 

and then join the 2 halves together -

Stitch the small triangles to the four corners to complete the block -

 

Press the whole block -

 



At this point you can either make more blocks using the same fabrics and alternating which fabric you add the small triangle to - or you could make all the blocks in different fabrics - making a lovely kaleidoscope of colour - the choice is yours!

 For now I have just made 2 different blocks -

I might make up some more of these and see where the colours lead me, and I can already see the beginning of an illusion of a curve - so this could be fun, but that's all I have time for now.

My Ohio Quilt: top finished

Hi everyone! Do you remember how I started the Ohio Star Quilt I talked about it? Here it is my top finished! I sew more blocks as much I could using this beautiful fabric collection " Aesop 's Fable " I bought some months ago.

I cut out all the pieces with  4 " finished ( 4 1/2" Unfinished)    and Bigz L Die - Triangles, 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Unfinished.
I wanted to tell you how incredible size has the new Big Shot Plus perfect to cut out with two dies at the same time , keeping free time for  your sewing, isn´t it great ?

I sew my last block at last ! You can see it  all the steps in the post I said before.

Here it´s  my final twelve blocks.

Now just it´s the time so sew on a row.

I had  some more fabric to use so I decided to  add  some  border.

Now I need to decide the backing . Here it´s my idea.

Same fabric for binding too. 

What´s your opinion? do you like this brown dots?

Surely I will quilt with straight lines but that will be later. Hope you like it . Now I will think in my new project for Sizzix blog and enjoy more dies!

¡ Hola a todo el mundo !¿ Os acordais cuando os hablé del quilt con la estrella Ohio que estaba montando ? Pues por fin tengo el top acabado. Añadí algunos bloques más , tantos como la tela , de la colección Aesop´s  Fable ; que había comprado me lo permitía.

Todas las piezas fueron cortados sólo con dos  troqueles

Bigz L Die - Triangles, 2 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W Unfinished.

4 " finished ( 4 1/2" Unfinished)

Además quería contarte que gracias al increíble tamaño de la nueva Big Shot Plus, puedes cortar de una vez con dos troqueles colocándolos juntos, así puedes ahorrar tiempo y dejarlo para la costura 

¿ no es estupendo?

Si aún tienes dudas en cómo usar esta troqueladora, no dejes  de  echar un vistazo al vídeo que hice para Sizzix con mi primer proyecto para el verano , en el artículo Mi bolsa  veraniega para libros

Como ves en la fotos , cosí las piezas ( puedes ver todoslos pasos en el primer artículo en el que te hablo del montaje )y  luego solo fue cuestión  de  coser los bloques entre sí y después una fila acabada con otra.

Mi quilt tiene doce bloques.

Como me quedó algo de tela , la reservé para hacer un borde alrededor.

Y tengo una idea de la tela para la trasera que será la misma que para  el biés , una marrón oscura con puntitos ¿ qué  os parece , os gusta la idea ?

Lo más seguro es que haga líneas rectas para el acolchado,pero eso será para contártelo más adelante. De momento voy pensando en el próximo proyecto con los troqueles de Sizzix. Espero que te  haya gustado y que tengas un estupendo fin de semana.

My Summer Book Bag

Hi everyone!Thinking in my next summer holidays I have designed a new  project with Sizzix dies.
Usually I take some books with me and I enjoy reading and thinking something to sew when I come back home. I´m sure I´m not the only one !
Last package from Sizzix, brought  a die I was wishing to try : Triangles Isosceles & Right.
This die has a lot of possibilities and  diamond is the block I´m sewing before, one of my favorites and never done before !

You get a good   12" size block, so  you can match different  blocks and take a new opportunity to get a quilt , table runner , or whatever you want.

I have  used two more dies   and Big Shot Plus 

Bigz Square, 4"  Finished 

Bigz XL 25" Die - Half-Square Triangles, 2 1/2" Assembled Square or Bigz Die - Half-Square Triangles, 2 1/2" Assembled Square

I chose a mother of pearl button to close.

I love Amy Sinibaldi style and her book came home the other day. This will be one in my summer book bag, yippie!

My bag uses the same block  both sides.

¡Hola a todo el mundo! Pensando en mis próximas vacaciones de verano , he diseñado un nuevo proyecto para Sizzix usando sus troqueles.

Normalmente suelo llevarme algunos libros conmigo y disfruto leyéndolos  y pensando algún proyecto para hacer a la vuelta.Seguro que no soy la única ¿ verdad ?

El último paquete que llegó de Sizzix    trajo un troquel que estaba deseando probar por primera vez. Se trata del Triángulo Isósceles al que veo muchas posibilidades.

Con este troquel he cosido un bloque con un buen tamaño      . Puedes montar varios y hacer una colcha, un mantel o cualquier cosa que te parezca.

He usado ese troquel y dos más, un cuadrado y triángulos :

Bigz Square, 4"  Finished 

Bigz XL 25" Die - Half-Square Triangles, 2 1/2" Assembled Square  o bien éste que no es tan largo  Bigz Die - Half-Square Triangles, 2 1/2" Assembled Square

En la foto podéis ver libro de Amy  Sinibaldi, su primero. Me encanta su estilo  y me vendrá genial para verlo tranquilamente en vacaciones. En mi blog Las Labores de Mercedes ya te he hablado un poco de él.

Mi bolsa  tiene el  mismo bloque por delante y por detrás.

Me he estrado con mi primer vídeo para Sizzix , espero que te guste . En él tienes  los pasos para hacerla.

My Ohio Quilt : the beginning

Hi everyone!! I´m a  star quilt lover and I was wishing to do a new one with the  traditional Ohio Star , very familiar between quilters. Well, when I saw  the new collection by Erin Turner  "Aesop's Fable" I could´t resist  and I bought some fabrics ( just some 1/2 and 1/4  yards ) Here it´s my selection. Love these red prints.
So this was a good opportunity to try the ohio star block!

I used the big square  die  4 " finished ( 4 1/2" Unfinished)   and  a die with four triangles  ( Triangles, 2 1/2 " H x 4 1/2" W unfinished ). Both match together  perfectly when  you sew the triangles to make a square. You can cut out until six layers!

I cut out squares and triangles in cream and print fabric.This is  the block before you sew all the pieces.  I love how quick you can get them  with the  Big Shot , now with the new model in white, much bigger!

Then I sew a pair of cream and red  triangle.

Now all the squares together.

And finally in a row.

I  have got  six blocks right now and ready more to sew.

I don´t know how much will be the  quilt size.I will spend all the fabrics and I hope I can get a nice quilt .

I love my free time sewing this block  and I´m sure I will show you more later.

¡Hola a todo el mundo!Soy una apasionada de los quilts con estrellas y estaba deseando hacer uno con  el tradicional Ohio Star , muy familiar entre las quilters.Bien, pues cuando vi la nueva colección de Erin Turner “ Aesop’s Fable” , no lo pude resistir y quedé prendada. Así que compré algunas telas. En las fotos veis la selección que hice. Suficiente para hacer un quilt, algunos medios y cuartos de tela.Me encantan estos estampados en rojo , de modo que fue una oportunidad estupenda para probar este bloque.

Utilicé el troquel de cuadrado grande    ( 4 " finished ( 4 1/2" Unfinished)   y  otro con cuatro triángulos   four triangles  ( Triangles, 2 1/2 " H x 4 1/2" W unfinished ) .Ambos combinan fenomenal entre sí cuando coses los triángulos  y los conviertes en cuadrado.

Corté los cuadrados y los triángulos en tela crema y en los estampados de la colección.En la foto grande podéis ver cómo quedan dispuestos antes de coserlos. Me gusta mucho lo rápido que puedes tenerlos cortados con la troqueladora Big Shot ( hasta seis capas de tela de una vez ) ,  ahora con el nuevo modelo en blanco ¡ mucho más grande!

Cosí primero las parejas de triángulos hasta hacer un cuadrado y luego todos los cuadrados juntos.Finalmente en filas hasta dejar el bloque acabado.

De momento tengo seis acabados y más preparados para seguir cosiendo.

Realmente no sé cómo será el quilt de grande pero gastaré todas las telas y espero que quede un buen tamaño.

Disfruto mucho en mi tiempo libre  cosiendo este bloque así que espero no tardar mucho en mostrados más avances.
