Kitchen paper towels and embossing folders

Today I am back with techniques using textured impressions folders and something so basic as kitchen paper towel.

From Sizzix I used:

I started by laying plenty of old newspapers to protect my working area. Then I place a single sheet of kitchen paper towel. It is important that it is plain white otherwise the patterns will show through. Then spray the chosen sprays around.

Once you are happy with all the colours, apply clear embossing powder while the ink of the sprays is still wet. The reason why I used paper towels rather than toilet paper is because they are very different. One (toilet paper) is designed to disintegrate with water and there fore coloured sprays will damages the paper itself, and the other (paper towel) is designed to not disintegrate even with loads of water, perfect for this technique.

Use a heat gun to melt the powder. This step is to give the paper towel some rigidity in order for the next step. You can see that the paper now does not bend like it would without the embossing powder.

I trimmed a rectangle and embossed it. You can see on the right photo how it retains the patterned embossed. 

To highlight the embossed pattern, I used Black StazOn all over. Dabbing gently in circular motions. I die cut the hearts with the rest of the towel using the starter kit framelit and bigz die.

To add the message, I used one of my stamp messages and layered on black card. The white card I also spritz with exactly the same sprays, yet the effect is more muted due to the card/paper towel different consistencies.

And this is the finished card.

Textured card with a decorative window

It's Karola here with next Sizzix inspiration! In my today's post I would like to show you an idea for a lovely and textured background for cards. I love to use all kinds of textured elements in my projects, and using Sizzix dies and embossing folders we can create interesting and unique texture.

As you can see on my card, I created decorative window, it's the main decorative point on this card. In addition, the background paper, in which I cut out window is embossed. 

Here's how I created the main accent and unique background for my card:

1. For my decorative background, I prepared a piece of textured Core'dinations cardstock. After cutting the paper for the background, put a small die with a frame motif from Framelits Die Set 4PK - Frame, Fancy Oval on the centre of the paper and then cut out the window.
2. Then, I embossed this piece of cardstock using trellis motif from Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK - Rose Vines & Trellis Set.
3. We can further decorate the background. I decided to highlight the embossed pattern by adding a bit of white gesso on the top.

I stick my background to the card base and in the centre of the window added 3D embellishment. I also added some decorative elements such as ribbon, twine, "celebrate" word and the flowers, with leaves I cut out using Bigz Die - Garden Greens by Tim Holtz.

1. Przygotowałam papier na tło, w tym przypadku jest to brystol Core'dinations. Po docięciu papieru ułożyłam mały wykrojnik z motywem ramki z zestawu Framelits Die Set 4PK - Frame, Fancy Oval na środku papieru, a następnie wycięłam okienko. 
2. Papier z wyciętym okienkiem wytłoczyłam we wzór dekoracyjnej siatki za pomocą folderu do embossingu z zestawu Textured Impressions Embossing Folders 2PK - Rose Vines & Trellis Set.
3. Tak przygotowane tło możemy dodatkowo ozdobić. Ja postanowiłam podkreślić wytłoczony wzór, dodając na wierzch nieco białego gesso. 

Moje tło nakleiłam na bazę kartki a w środku okienka nakleiłam przestrzenną ozdobę. Dodałam też kilka dekoracyjnych elementów takich jak wstążka, dratwa, napis i kwiatek, który ozdobiłam listkami wyciętymi za pomocą wykrojnika Bigz Die - Garden Greens by Tim Holtz.

Mam nadzieję, że udało mi się Was dziś zainspirować do stworzenia ciekawej kartki.

Acetate embossed card

Hello and Happy belated New Year!

Today I am sharing another technique for texture impressions folders. This one is using acetate and texture paste.

I used the Sizzix Winter Leaves folder and the acetate of the XL Bigz dies packaging - yes, I am one of those crafters that keep everything!  

I trimmed the acetate to measure 5" x  10" and folded in half. Then I embossed it placing the folder in the middle.

Using a palette knife I put the paste - I used Decoart's Modelling Paste because it is very lightweight, something to consider for this technique. Cover the whole area and using the same palette knife remove as much excess as possible.

To create the insert, I cut two pieces of paper - I used Carte Postale by Basic Grey - one to measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and the darker one 4" x 4" . I glue the lighter one from the inside and then the darker one from the back. this way it hides away the adhesive.

Finally I added a sticker and button. I just love the shabby chic look! I hope you do too.

Reindeer Christmas Card

Happy Friday everyone! This is Anna.

I'm so excited to share my new project with you today! It`s already October and it is time to think about Christmas.

Last month New Brenda Walton products were released and I want to show you one of my projects created with her beautiful dies.

Today I have a Christmas card to show you with a dear Reindeer.

 

 

 

To make the background I used the new Textured Embossing Folder Winter Snowflakes Set by Paula Pascal.

How to make the background: add some gold acrylic paint on the inside of the embossing folder before to press your white cardstock with the Big Shot. Take the paper and let it dry. Clean the embossing folder at once.

Ciao! Ecco un nuovo appuntamento con Anna.

Buon Venerdì a tutti!

Sono felice di condividere il mio nuovo progetto con voi...

Siamo già a metà Ottobre ed è tempo di pensare al Natale se non vogliamo arrivare impreparate ;)

Un mese fa sono usciti i nuovi prodotti firmati Brenda Walton e così voglio mostrarvi uno dei miei progetti creati con la sua bella fustella con l'elegante Renna.

Ecco un biglietto di Natale che può essere d'ispirazione anche per un quadretto da regalare.

Bando alle ciance, ecco come ho fatto:

In questa card non ho usata carte fantasia, perchè lo sfondo l'ho creato da me: ho usato i nuovi Textured Embossing Folder Winter Snowflakes Set.

Come fare lo sfondo: passare un po' di vernice acrilica oro all'interno della mascherina da embossing prima di premere il vostro cartoncino bianco con la Big Shot. Togliete la carta e lasciate asciugare. Pulire subito la mascherina sotto il getto dell'acqua.

La renna l'ho realizzata tagliando del cartone di recupero con la fustella Bigz Reindeer. Gli accessori per abbellirla li ho tagliati con la stessa fustella usando cartoncini in tinta unita e glitter. Ho rifinito con un po' di ric rac, pom pom e qualche strass.

Ho incollato la renna sopra una taschina dove inserirò una tag ed ho poi incollato il tutto sullo sfondo embossato dorato.

Ho aggiunto anche due fiocchi di neve tagliati con i Framelits sempre della linea Winter Moment by Paula Pascal.

Beh, spero che vi sia piaciuta questa idea da usare non solo per card, ma anche per mini album, layout e home decor.

Here I used a simple embossing folder which I’m fond of to create volume and 3D effects.

Use a large size tag (8x16cm) as a basis.

Give it some colours by working it with Izink pigment ink (colour Caviar). Add a few drops on your Teflon mat, spray water and apply your tag directly on the water-ink mix.

Then choose an embossing folder, here the Pom-poms & roses which is just perfect with my pictures.

When your coloured tag is dry, insert it in the folder and put the whole in your Big Shot.

Now use the tag as a page for your mini book. You’ll only need to decorate it with stickers and stamps!

J'ai utilisé ici une simple plaque à embosser que j'aime énormément pour créer du relief et du volume.

Utilisez un tag grand format (8x16cm) comme base.

Donnez lui de la couleur en le travaillant avec des pigments Izink couleur caviar. Déposez quelques gouttes sur un tapis téflon, vaporisez d'eau puis applatissez directement votre tag. Laissez sécher à l'air libre.

Sélectionnez ensuite une plaque à embosser, ici les Pom-poms et roses qui vont à merveille avec ma sélection de photos.

Glissez votre tag sec et coloré dans votre plaque et passez le tout à la Big Shot.

Utilisez maintenant votre tag tel une page de mini album qu'il vous suffira de décorer avec des stickers et des tampons !

A very simple but trendy card with a kraft, gold and white combo. I had fun playing with the latest new products from Sizzix.

Start by embossing a pretty “chevrons and labels” folder with white cardstock. This is a trendy design that fits with all themes.

Then mat on a grey pattern paper and mat again on a kraft cardstock.

Afterwards cut a baroque frame out of a Bazzill pattern paper and out of kraft paper. The oval shape is mounted with 3D foam adhesive.

A title realized with a Craft Origine stamp and Chalk Dry Sand ink comes as a completion.

I glued a wood bird and sequins as embellishments. The whole is sprayed with gold ink.

Une carte toute simple toujours dans la tendance du moment avec un combo kraft, or et blanc. Je me suis amusée ici avec les dernières nouveautés Sizzix !

Commencez par embosser dans du cardstock blanc une joli plaque chevrons et étiquettes. Un design bien tendance qui convient à toutes thématiques.

Celle-ci est ensuite mattée sur un imprimé gris puis du cardstock couleur kraft.

J'ai ensuite découpé dans un imprimé Bazzill et toujours du kraft un cadre baroque. La forme ovale est montée en 3D à l'aide de mousse.

Un titre réalisé au tampon Craft Orgine et imprimé avec la chalk Dry sand vient compléter l'ensemble.

En guise de décoration j'ai collé un oiseau en bois et des sequins. Le tout parsemé d'encre en spray or.

I used two Sizzix dies on my page that really were the main thread of my album and my source of inspiration!

Let’s start with embossing my white paper with the help of my Big Shot. Then I added colours to my background with a cut’n dry piece and my favourite inks (pink & yellow Adirondack).

I cut out each hexagon pattern, even the incomplete pieces, and I partially rebuilt the whole pattern on my background. The edges are underlined with a thin-tipped black pen to make the whole pattern stand out.

The rendering is cool, isn’t it? It brings volume and contrast to my creation which now is one of my favourite!

I used the same technique for the second folder. The patterns will be used along my pictures.

I hope that with this album you will feel like taking out your summer pictures and working on the embossing technique!

J'ai utilisé deux dies Sizzix sur ma page mais je dois dire qu'ils ont été le fin conducteur de mon mini et réellement ma source d'inspiration !

J'ai commencé par embosser mon papier blanc à l'aide de ma big shot, puis avec mes encres préférées (Adirondack jaune et rose ) j'ai coloré mon fond à l'aide d'un morceau de cut' n dry.

J'ai ensuite découpé chaque hexagone, même les morceaux coupés et j'ai reconstitué partiellement mon motif sur mon fond de page. L'extérieur est souligné grâce à un stylo noir fin qui permet de faire ressortir l'ensemble.

L'effet est très sympa, vous ne trouvez pas ? Il apporte relief et contraste à ma création qui fait partie à ce jour de mes pages préférées !

La seconde plaque est travaillée selon la même technique, elle est envisagée en continuité de mes photos.

Hi everyone!

Let me show you today a mini album that I will teach in a few days at Version Scrap, the French scrapbooking exhibition event.

The theme of this mini book is Paris, our beautiful capital city. A good opportunity to put the emphasis on monuments, bridges, districts or to talk about a family walk. A retro style atmosphere with a touch of vintage with loads of details. This album looks like a paperback 9x14 cms with an asymmetric structure which will allow the insertion of a great number of pictures and details.

This album was the perfect opportunity to use the following dies: an Eiffel Tower and a Lily flower.
I also used two embossing folders on Paris theme. These elements are cut out of white Bristol paper then reworked with inks. The Eiffel Tower template will also be used as a stencil.

Once I’ve cut the patterns with my Big Shot, I stamped them with a large text stamp from Florilèges Design using red or sepia Versafine inks. The lily flower is cut in half and each part will be used as an accent on two different pages.

Let me show you then how easy it is to use your Eiffel Tower template as a stencil: grab a cut’n dry foam piece and your Vintage Photo Distress ink, and colour inside the template making small circular moves. Then all you have to do is outline the edges with a thin-tipped black pen.

The technique on how to use the embossing folders is really simple and playful! Put a rectangular piece of white Bristol paper in the embossing folder then use your Big Shot as usual. You obtain two embossed rectangles which you can shade with cut’n dry and dyes ink (Distress & Adirondack) for a custom-made background.

Un mini album sur notre belle capitale Paris, l'occasion de mettre en valeur des monuments, ponts, quartiers ou encore balade en famille. Une ambiance rétro, un brin vintage avec une multitude de détails. Un mini façon livre de poche au petit format 9x14cm avec des pages déstructurées permettant d'intégrer un grand nombre de photos et de détails.

Je me suis servie pour l'occasion de superbes dies Sizzix juste idéaux pour mon album : une Tour Eiffel à découper ainsi qu'une fleur de Lys.

Deux plaques à embosser sur Paris viennent compléter ma thématique. Ces éléments sont découpées dans du bristol blanc pour être ensuite retravaillées avec des encres. Le gabarit de la Tour Eiffel sera également utilisé comme pochoir.

Les dies une fois découpés à la Big Shot sont tamponnés avec un grand tampon texte Florilèges Design à la Versafine sépia ou rouge. La fleur de Lys est découpée en deux pour être envisagée sur deux pages en décoration.

Pour retravailler la Tour Eiffel en pochoir rien de plus simple : il suffit de se munir d'un cut'n dry et d'une encre Distress Vintage photo et de colorer l'intérieur en effectuant de petits mouvements circulaires. L'extérieur sera ensuite souligné avec un stylo noir fin.

Concernant les plaques à embosser, la technique est très simple et ludique ! Il suffit de placer un rectangle de papier Bristol dans chaque plaque, de passer le tout à la Big Shot. Vous obtenez deux rectangles en relief qu'il suffit ensuite d'ombrer avec vos cut'n dry et encres dyes ( Distress et Adirondack) pour obtenir un fond de page sur mesure.

I used my Big Shot and my Polaroid dies to put the emphasis on some of my pictures. I had fun using the 2 largest Pola dies on many occasions!

For a fancy effect, I glued my frames in an oblique manner and I chose to use frames smaller than my pictures! It allows seeing the picture in full, focusing on the face.

Do not hesitate to trace the inner outlines of your frame with a thin-tipped black pen, for more originality.

I also inserted one of this dies on my cover page. It is cut out of a yellow patterned paper and shaded with Vintage Photo Distress ink. A text stamp is printed where the picture should have been.

On the last double page, I had fun embossing a white paper with one of my favourite embossing folders: the hexagon-shaped one! I used blue & yellow Adirondack inks to make the patterns stand out. I added some ink splashes, a few nice patterns and here we are!

J'aime jouer la fantaisie en inclinant mes cadres et en choisissant des cadres plus petits que mes photos ! Cela permet de voir la photo en entier tout en zoomant sur le visage.

Pensez également à repasser au stylo fin noir les contours intérieurs de votre cadre pour un rendu plus original.

J'ai également repris un de ces dies sur la page de couverture. Le cadre est ici découpé dans un imprimé jaune et ombré à l'encre Distress Vintage Photo, un texte imprimé au tampon vient remplacer la photo.

Sur la dernière double page, je me suis amusée avec un papier blanc que j'ai embossé avec une de mes plaques préférée : le motif hexagonal ! J'ai utilisé des Adirondack blet et jaune pour bien faire ressortir les motifs, quelques tâches d'encres, des jolis motifs et le tour est joué !

It’s already March and Spring will be there soon! It’s this time of the year when we can start using again our Flower dies with Spring colours!

Today I’ll show you how to make a mini album inspired by an altered book I taught in class last month.

Here are some pictures. I worked with flower dies and embossing folders here.

I really like using dies as embellishments in my mini albums and it’s always cool to have my students use the Big Shot machine during classes 

There’s this die which produces very neat flowers that I particularly like and that we used here for decorative purposes. You simply have to cut them out of white paper and use as embellishments. Feel free to glue them with 3D adhesive or to superimpose them for a nicer effect! That’s what I did here!

Then it was time to use these very pretty embossing folders with feminine patterns. I used the first one with tracing paper: I love how it looks! It’s light and transparent, and that brings texture to my album.

I used the second embossing folder with white paper. I made the patterns stand out with the help of cut’n dry and Adirondack inks (watermelon & sunshine yellow).

Déjà le mois de Mars et bientôt le printemps ! Le moment de ressortir les dies fleurs et les jolies couleurs printannières !

Aujourd'hui je vous propose un mini album selon un livre altéré proposé en atelier le mois dernier. Voici quelques visuels ici, j'ai travaillé notamment avec des dies fleurs et des plaques à embosser.

J'adore utiliser mes dies en décoration dans mes mini albums et faire utiliser la Big Shot à mes élèves lors d'ateliers :)

Nous avons décoré ici avec des dies fleurs très fins que j'aime énormément ! Ils sont simplement découpés dans du papier blanc puis envisagés en décoration. Pensez à les monter en 3D ou à les superposer pour leur donner plus d'effet ! C'est ce que j'ai fait ici !

J'ai ensuite utilisé de belles plaques à embosser à motifs très féminins. La première est embossé dans du calque, j'adore l'effet ! Un côté très léger et transparent qui apporte de la texture à mon album.

La seconde plaque quant à elle est embossée sur du papier blanc. Avec des encres Adirondack corail et jaune ( watermelon et sunshine yellow) et du cut n'dry j'ai fait ressortir mes motifs.
