Birthday Set with new printable from Sizzix

Hey crafty people out there,
I hope you had a beautiful week? It´s reeeeeaaaally hot here in Germany the last days and it will be for the next week. But I can´t stop crafting? Are you with me? ;)

On the Sizzix Facebook Site you can find a link to a new awesome set of free pattern to print at home. I printed them on Vellum and I loooooove how it turned out. All the little cute hearts, it´s so lovely. :) And be sure to follow Sizzix on Facebook to get the newest infos and a loooot of crafty inspirations. But ok, you wanna see what I made with this printable? Scroll down. ;)

We are invited to a birthday party tonight and I can´t wait to give this cute birthday set to the birthdaygirl. A card is an absolutely MUST for birthdays and because she will get a voucher, I made a fitting box with the Big Shot Plus Starter Kit.

The list of supplies:

Cardstock, sentiment stamps, needle and some twine, felt, vellum to print the pattern on

I love that the butterfly on the card could sit on the flower on the box. ;) I used felt for the flower and the butterfly to create a little more depth and structure on this birthday set.

I thought it´s a little bit boring just to glue the die cuted circles on the card, so I took some twine and a needle to add a cute element.

Do you like this set? And what about the Sizzix pattern? I think it´s perfect for so many reasons. I think I will make some wedding cards with it in the future.

Have a nice weekend everybody, xo Julia

'A Simple Life'

Time for another post from me here on the blog.
Today I have a page with a photo and colours to celebrate 'The Simple Life'.

I used a sheet of jeans-patterned paper as my base and also used my Tattered Florals die to make jeans-flowers. I love the fresh blue colour that goes so well with seaside pictures.

I added a couple of Prima flowers and some from Norwegian Papirdesign for extra measure and a diecut from Heidi Swapp to make up my title, 'Simple Life'.

I find I like to use my Frameworks Trellis die more and more.
Since it's a Bigz die I especially love using it with cardboard to make cuts that resemble  rich wonderful chipboard.  Like I did here....

As you can see I altered the Trellis die cut a little. Firstly I painted it with gesso, and when dry I used a script stamp from Prima to add extra interest to the cardboard.

The cute butterfly is from the latest collaboration between Sizzix and Prima, a collection  called
Flora Grande. If you look closely behind my flower clusters you will see something pink and lacey peeking out. I used half of a die cut flower from the same collection for some softness.
Underneath it all I used loads of Prima Color Bloom mist in a gold shade.

I hope to se you here on the Sizzix blog next Sunday again!
 Have a great week!

Dearly Beloved

Whenever I have been naughty, my wife always starts by saying "You know what you've done don't you?" to which I almost always reply " What now my beloved?" in the vain hope that one little endearment will help to calm the waters.

I'm not that naughty really, just minor day-to-day irritants like forgetting to fill the water filter jug or forgetting to pick up milk or..... it's usually forgetting something or other!..... MEN!!!

This week I'm going to make her birthday card (21 again!) and I thought I would use some of the new dies/folders from Lori Whitlock and Prima listed below.

I started by cutting a 10 x 12 cm rectangle of ivory card and die-cutting a flourish from the same card. I used the flourish as a template and traced around the edge on the base of the rectangle with a pencil before trimming around the pencil line and rounding off the upper corners with a suitable punch.

I embossed the floral pattern onto the card and gently inked over the embossed image using the Weathered Wood Distress Ink pad applied with a blending tool followed by the Shabby Shutters ink pad. I also applied a little Mustard Seed ink which is a very strong yellow so use with caution, it adds a little freshness where needed. I used the same colours on the flourish.
Remember the beginning of the blog? well this is where the 'Beloved' part comes in. I measured the tab die from the Ornate Labels set and created the word 'Beloved' on my PC before printing onto ivory card. Next I cropped the word with the die and die-cut the ornate label from gold card which I then distressed with a sanding pad. I also cut the label background onto which I matted the ornate label followed by the die-cut phrase. This is a seriously useful set of dies and I urge you to check them out.
For the finishing touch I wanted to add a pretty little flower and who better to design such a set of dies but Prima. This is one of five different flowers in the same set and they are a die-cut essential in my opinion. I inked the edges of the petals using the same inks as before and set about applying a little texture and dimension to the petals using my trusty tool kit by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. I added a Crystal to the centre as the finishing touch and......

.....Here's the finished card.

I had so much fun I decided to make another one using the same elements but changing the colours slightly. I also used a different ornate label and flower, both from the same sets though.

And here they are together, now all I've got to do is choose which one I think she will like..... and then give her the other one as I'm bound to get it wrong!!!

Congratulations!!

Hello again Sizzix friends, it's me Bente back with a new project to share :-)
Today I did not make a page , but quite a straight forward shabby card instead.
I have a few birthdays coming up and it's nice to have a small pile of cards stashed away.

1.I used the Framelits die Trellis and cut a piece of chipboard with it.
2. I prepared both the die cut and the cardbase with stamps, gesso and mists and used a black pen for outlining.
3. I made and added a Tattered Floral bloom that I had misted a lovely turquoise colour.
4. I used the Susan's Garden dies to cut out a few leaves to add to my flower.
5. I stamped and aged a sentiment for my card.

I love that you can vary the Tattered Florals bloom so much, both in size and appearance.

The Bigz dies are wonderful for cutting thicker materials and they cut through it like butter!!

Hej igen Sizzix fans!

No Rust for the wicked!

If I am wicked then my worst crime is the use of terrible puns in the title of my blogs as I'm sure you will all agree?

A little while back I gave a beautiful die cut 1950's car the 'rusty' treatment and I said at the time that I will use it at some point in the future. I have scrapped the car idea but I want to use the rust technique which was featured in Tim Holtz' Creative Chemistry 102 online classes...Hey! if your gonna steal, steal from the best I say!!!

Seriously though, follow the link and sign up, it's jam packed with inspirational ideas showing how to get the best out of all your favourite inks, stains and acrylics and there's plenty of Sizzix inspiration to feast your eyes on too.

The dies I'm using this week are:

As last week, it's another mash-up of designs from different collections which work particularly well together. This week I am again using dies from Prima and Lori Whitlock with one of my old favourites namely the big ol' tag die from Tim Holtz.

I started by die-cutting four cogs two heart locks (for layering), a key (which didn't make the final project) and a delicious butterfly from ivory card. Next I lightly applied some embossing ink before sprinkling with Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder which is great for adding a gritty texture and works in a different way to conventional embossing powders in that it gives random coverage, ideal for distress applications.

I fixed the powder with a heat tool and inked the die-cuts with a combination of Distress inks to achieve the rusty iron look. Next I die-cut the beautiful flourish from ivory card and gave it the same rusty treatment.
I applied a rectangle of patterned paper (My Mind's Eye Nostalgia Collection) to a piece of mount board before die-cutting the tag before selectively inking around the perimeter. Next I stamped onto the top right-hand edge using various Distress inks and my trusty Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm rotary phrase stamp before stamping onto ivory card, trimming to size and distressing the edges. Finally, I attached the phrase to the tag using tiny staples.

Now all I need to do is attach the cogs and flourish to the tag, I have used screw head brads in the centre of some of the cogs. I attached the layered padlock using a couple of tiny jump rings and then I lightly inked the butterfly before curling back the wings and dousing with Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter followed by a little strategically placed crushed glass glitter around the edges, I had to add a bit of bling with all that rust, and I love the contrast it gives.

And that, as they say....is that! except for a bit of Crinkle Ribbon dyed to match the rust colours for a finishing touch. I love the flourish so next week I'm going to put it to good use on my wife's birthday card.

A Gear necklace made with mountboard

This week I have been inspired by the Prima dies that just been released this month.
I love Gears, I do think they are great as less feminine flowers, a perfect add on to cards and layouts, but the also make lovely jewelry.

I made a similar one using the old Tim Holtz gear dies a few years a go. But as it is made out of mount board - or passepartout as it is called in some areas, the stuff used to mount art piece on frames - it tends to age fast if worn a lot.

So I decided to make a new version using the new Prima die Sizzix Bigz Die - Love Gears 659709.

I die cut several gears out of mount board. At the end I only used two designs out of the four included on the die. I attached them together with strong wet glue and I let them dry completely.

Then I used Liquid Leaf which is a high shine metallic medium and painted all over it. To distress it a bit, I added some other metallic tints using a wax from the same manufacturer.

Finally I added a chain using a jump ring and the own circle hole of each gear to unite it.

It is an statement piece, but I think it is perfect as they are all the rage now!

Card with the new butterfly dies from Sizzix/Prima.

Hi, today I'm here to share a card using some new and very lovely dies that resulted from  a collaboration between Prima Marketing and Sizzix. This time I have used the butterflies, but the Flora Grande collection has lots of other beautiful designs to choose from.

And a couple of close ups:

1. Cut out your cardbase ca 14cm X 14 cm.
2. Cutout two triangles, one just slightly larger than the other..
3. Chalk around the edges.
4. Layer and glue all the pieces together with the triangles in the center .
5. Die cut three middle sized butterflies and three smaller ones..
6. Glue the small butterflies on top of the middle sized ones.
Add a rose on top as embellishment.
7. Place the three layered butterflies on your card and fasten with pop dots.

I used additional supplies from Prima Marketing collection Almanac and Delight.
The mini roses are by Papirdesign.

Thanks for looking!
See you next Sunday!

Hei hei!

1. Lag en kortbase, min er ca 14cm X 14 cm.
2. Klipp ut to triangeler, det ene ca 0,5 cm större enn det andre.
3. Ta litt chalk/ink runt kantene.
4. Lim sammen alle lager med trianglene i mitten.
5. Stans ut tre mellomstore og tre mindre sommerfugler.
6. Lim den lille sommerfuglen på den store og til sist en minirose.
7. Plasser de tre sommerfuglene på kortet med limputer.

Jeg brukte.
