Super Simple Glitter Brooches

I went to my fabric stash for this week's make and decided to try a DIY with some glitter fabric I've had for a while! I adore the heart dies so want to share how I made a super simple glitter brooch.

I cut out 2 hearts in glitter fabric and 2 in felt to stabilize the glitter fabric.

I used a hot glue gun to secure the glitter fabric to the felt and then added the brooch backs with hot glue too.

How cute are they when complete?! Such a simple make as it only takes a few minutes!

Here's a list of the items I used to make the glitter heart brooches:

Stamp n' Stencil

They say that we only use 10% of our brains, or 5% in my case as many would argue! Sometimes I feel the same about die-cutting. There is so much potential which remains untapped so I thought It would be nice to share a couple of techniques which I haven't used for ages.

I am using  the Bigz Heart Trio die. This is one of eight fabulous Bigz dies that have been designed for Sizzix by Echo Park which are perfect for a huge range of applications, I know that Angela, our textile guru is very excited about them!

I love the shapes of these hearts and they are so big and bold offering a blank canvas ready to be explored. I am using a selection of Distress inks as shown below and at this point I only have a sketchy idea of how they will turn out.

I attached some self adhesive foam to a square of mount board and Die-cut my shape... Aren't Bigz dies great!!!
I applied the ink pads directly onto the foam side of the die-cut shape before gently spritzing with clean water using a mister. Next, I pressed the shape face down onto a square of white card as one would do with a stamp.
For my next technique I die-cut the same heart from paper and used the negative as a stencil. I placed the stencil onto white card and applied the same inks using foam applicators.
I removed the stencil and lightly spritzed with clean water before drying with a heat tool. Next, I replaced the stencil and used a text stamp to add a little detail.
Finally, I die-cut a 3-D flower and some leafy foliage from white card before forming the flower and curling the leaves to add a little dimension. Click on the highlighted text to see the dies used.

Here are the finished cards. As you can see I have distressed the edges of the white card and attached each to a kraft base card secured with some suitably wonky stitching very kindly provided by our Angela although I feel I should point out that the 'wonky' stitching was by my request!

I applied PVA to the foliage and dipped it in gold glitter and I used a postmark sentiment stamp from the good people at Lily of the Valley (great set, very versatile!)

One card is for a wedding and the other for a special birthday girl. Hope they like 'em?

Pizza my heart!

On April 1st I posted a blog featuring a grey bag embellished with a die-cut flower. In the centre of the flower is a large diamanté gem which was taken from a hair band  that I found in one of the shops down the road from here. As I was waiting in line to pay for the hair band and other assorted costume jewellery (I get the funniest looks!) I spotted a t-shirt which was the inspiration for today's blog; I just transformed it into a card.

When I saw the t-shirt I had just completed a couple of blogs using my beloved heart Framelits dies so they were fresh in my mind and it just made perfect sense!

I used one of the dies from the Framelits Hearts set which has six identical hearts in various sizes. I die-cut 3 separate hearts from ivory, pale yellow and red card before gathering all 3 together and cutting away a wedge with a good sharp pair of scissors. I created some contrast around the edges of the ivory wedge using Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Next, I used my scissors to trim away part of the red wedge and attached it to the ivory wedge. To complete my pizza slice, I trimmed the yellow wedge to size before using a couple of hole punches to add the pattern which when layered onto the red wedge gives the appearance of pepperoni. Finally, I used my inks to apply a little contrast.

If you don't have a set of the Alphanumeric alphabet and number dies then you are really missing out. This set has multiples of each letter so that you can actually spell out a word to cut an aperture if you wish....LOVE this set!

I used the dies to cut out the letters to spell the word 'PIZZA' from a lovely olive coloured card before laying them out and measuring the height and width of the word.

Once I had the dimensions of the die-cut word I could create the rest of the phrase using my PC and printing onto white card. I took the red heart from which I had cut the wedge and smothered it with red glitter before assembling all the elements onto the card as shown below. I used adhesive foam pads to mount the heart and pizza slice to bring a little dimension.

Hope you like it!

Mini book Hello World ! by Karine

Mini album Hello World!

Hello!

Today’s Thursday, and I am delighted to show you a glimpse of a new project that I will teach in France from May onwards. Colours and glitter for very dynamic & cheerful pictures!

Supply list:

Cardstock: American Crafts
Papers: 4heures37, Studio Calico
Alphabets: Jenni Bowlin Studio
Labels: Custom & Craft
Glitter: Pause Créative
Stamps: Studio Calico, Bloomini Studio, Denim Tampons

Dies:

658300 :  Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit
660801 :  Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK-speech-bubbles
660804 :  Sizzix Die Set 3PK-happiness-phrases
660815 :  Sizzix Die Set 3PK-Woodland-leaves

Here I used the newly launched Sizzix dies! They are fantastic, with a thin and elaborate design. Wonderful! To add brightness and sparkle to my mini album, I felt like working with glitter.

Double-sided tape is perfect for this technique! All you have to do is cut some leaves, words and geometric patterns in this adhesive.

Then glue your die cuts on your background or your photo, peel off the upper plastic layer of the tape and sprinkle with thin glitter! Remove the extra glitter and here you are! Your glitter is fixed as if by magic! This is an easy technique that makes a good impression, don’t you think?

Have a lovely day,

Karine

Bonjour !

660804 :  Sizzix Die Set 3PK-happiness-phrases
660815 :  Sizzix Die Set 3PK-Woodland-leaves

Glittering ornaments

Wednesday again and time to post yet another Christmas card. This week I went with a cool colour scheme and three stylish ornaments from Triplits Die Set 9PK - Ornaments.

I used two of the ornaments to diecut directly into the white cardstock that will go on top of everything. The diecut that is complete, I used as the third ornament for the card.

I bought some cheap glitter wrapping paper after Christmas last year with the specific intention to use it when making cards. It works so well and it is much cheaper than buying regular glitter paper. Here I've simply added the wrapping paper behind the negative spaces formed by the ornament as well as on top of the third ornament.

The Triplits Die Set 9PK - Ornaments comes with a small die with which you can make the metallic hanger for the ornaments which I of course did. I also used thread to make the ornaments look like they hang from the top of the card. As decoration for the ornaments I used three different small diecuts from Triplits Die Set 9PK - Ornaments and Triplits Die Set 14PK - Christmas Trees.

Supply list:
Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (Powder Blue & Teal)
Sizzix Accessory - Magnetic Platform for Wafer-Thin Dies
Triplits Die Set 9PK - Ornaments
Triplits Die Set 14PK - Christmas Trees
Cardstock (Papertrey Ink)
Silver cardstock
Thread
Wrapping paper
Foam adhesive

---o---

Welcome to the Fairytale

Hi All,

Daria is here. And today I would like to show you a card. I called this card "Welcome to the Fairytale".

Items:
Big Shot Machine (657900)
Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die - Album, Garden Gate (658449)

I created  the base of card using Album, Garden Gate die.  I colored the images and glued them onto the card. Then I decorated the card with butterflies which I cut using Butterflight die. Also I added flowers, pearls and glitter.

Have a nice day!

Daria.

Big Shot Machine (657900)

Festive Font Fun!

This week I wanted to create some really simple Christmas cards which were inspired by a Father's day card that I saw Somewhere or other and I 'kind of' adapted the idea for this weeks blog. Isn't it amazing how we take in inspiration and ideas which pop up when least expected?

I know that once December arrives we will be bombarded with Christmas tunes which is just fine by me, I can't wait to get my Christmas classics on the CD player. Would I feel differently if I worked in a shop or supermarket listening to the same CD on repeat 8 hours a day....YES! I love 'em and I thought I would steal a few choice lyrical phrases today.

I wanted to use my favourite BLOCK TALK alphabet by Tim Holtz which has all the uppercase letters and numbers on a single Bigz XL die, that's right, a single die! It's a die that you will go back to time and time again because the letters are tall and thin which means that you can fit some pretty big words on a card/tag/ layout,

I started by attaching an  A4 Double sided tape sheet (from the clever people at Stix2) to the back of a sheet of stiff white card this is a great way to add and adhesive layer to your die cuts but I want the adhesive on the front and not the rear this time. I trimmed rectangles to size to fit over the individual letters that I needed (tape sheet side against the die) and ran it all through my trusty Big Shot. Next, I placed the letters on my cutting mat against the place with the measurements and noted that the word 'MERRY' measures approximately 4 x 8cm.

At this point I turned to my PC and created a document in Publisher I drew a rectangle measuring 148.5 x 105mm (A6) as a guide for the front of my card. I also drew a rectangle measuring 40 x 80mm which represents the word 'MERRY' I then created a couple of text boxes with rest of the text and manipulated them to fit in the large rectangle. Once I had everything in place I flipped it through 90 degrees and set it in the top left hand corner before deleting the large rectangle. I sent the document to print placing an A5 sheet of stiff white card in the feed tray.

Once the card was printed I scored and folded down the centre. Next, I cut strips of double sided 3D foam pads and attached them to the rear of each die cut letter prior to mounting them onto the base card, I drew a faint guide line to help with accurate placement.

When the letters where in place I set about carefully removing the backing to the adhesive sheet on the front of each letter using the point of a craft knife. Finally I sprinkled my chosen glitter onto the face of each letter before shaking off the excess. You are probably wondering why I didn't just cut glitter card? Well, I have lots of gorgeous glitter in cool and unusual colours and I don't have the glitter card to match so it's another way that die cutting becomes a great problem solving tool.

As you can see I finished the card with a white bow and adhesive gem.

I couldn't stop at one card though.....
