All time faves!

Hearts like flowers and butterflies are universal favourites for most creative people from card makers to quilters. Hearts come in a variety of shapes and sizes and we all have our favourites and the Bigz Hearts, Primitive die is mine!

Not only are they my favourite hearts but it is also one of my all time favourite dies too!

 This autumn I am scheduled to attend quite a few events and shows and one of the things I always like to have with me is a materials swatch which is in the form of die-cut flowers cut from several materials attached to a large jump ring the purpose of which is to show what can be cut using a Bigz die. I was thinking the other day that it is time to retire my old swatch as, much like myself it is getting a little tatty around the edges.

Today's post will show the start of what is quite a long process. I have created three separate die-cut hearts in gingham, marquetry wood and card and attached each to a die-cut tag. When finished they will all be loaded onto a big ol' jump ring and taken out on the road.

Card is always a good place to start so I cut the medium heart and applied a little Old Paper Distress Ink before adding the stamped detail. once dry I scuffed the edges using the blade of my scissors to add to the care worn appearance.

The tag used is from another of my favourite die sets namely the Framelits Tag Collection By Tim Holtz very handy and versatile indeed.

Gingham fabric has a lovely texture and is great for use in mixed media projects. I started by attaching a strip of the fabric to a piece of kraft card and die-cutting my heart shape and next, I applied a little white gesso with my brayer.

After inking the edges using Pumice Stone Distress Ink I stencilled the number 2 using grey acrylic. Once the paint had dried I used another stencil to apply white spots in a random fashion, it's far more controllable than the splatter effect for this project.

I also used the blade of my scissors to gently lift the edges before attaching to the tag.

Marquetry wood is great to use but it is very brittle. I always advise backing it with card or tape to hold it together and add a little strength. I cut a few strips into 'planks' and used Distress Paints to add the colours. Distress Paints are great for this particular project because if you use the sponge applicator on the end of the bottle it's really easy to vary the amount of paint applied giving a distressed appearance without having to lift a finger!

I attached the strips to a piece of dark card beore die-cutting the shape and I also applied a typewriter text stamp using a light grey ink, the effect is very subtle as intended and it all looks pretty cool!

More of these on the way, I'm off to dig out some quirky materials to have fun with... Suggestions welcome!!

A pretty little notebook

Hi everybody!

For our Tuesday gathering, I suggest creating a small notebook full of charm, which can be offered whatever the occasion!

You need a brown wrapping paper (kraft paper) and about ten white sheets in a A4 format (8,27 x 11,69 pouces or ). Fold them in two. 

Slide the white sheets inside the kraft and pass the whole in your sewing machine to create a binding very quickly.

Then comes the decoration of the cover: I chose to put a doily on the left side of the notebook, then I added several hearts cut thanks to to the Die "Hearts", which offers 3 different sizes. I used falls of Swirlcards papers in pink and turquoise tones.

I used the sewing machine again to make two zig zag sewing lines, before sticking my title. For the title, I used chipboards letters looking like cork. Some flowers and small strasses were finishing the decoration…

For more elegance, you can round the angles of the cover and the internal sheets.

Bonjour à tous!

Pour notre rendez-vous du mardi, je vous propose de réaliser un petit carnet plein de charme, que l’on peut offrir quelque soit l’occasion!

Il vous faut un papier kraft et une dizaine de feuilles blanches au format A4, pliez-les en 2. Glissez les feuilles blanches à l’intérieur du kraft et passez le tout à la machine à coudre pour réaliser la reliure très rapidement.

Il suffit ensuite de décorer la couverture, j’ai choisi de mettre un napperon sur le côté gauche du carnet, puis j’ai décoré de plusieurs coeurs découpés grâce au Die «Hearts», qui propose 3 tailles de coeurs différentes. J’ai utilisé des chutes de papiers Swirlcards dans les tons rose et turquoise.

J’ai de nouveau utilisé la machine à coudre pour réaliser 2 traits de couture zig zag, avant de coller mon titre avec des lettre en chipboards imitation liège. Quelques fleurs et des petits strass finissent la décoration…

Pour plus d’élégance, vous pouvez arrondir les angles de la couverture et des feuilles intérieures.

Three Hearts Cushion

Hi to everyone, today I come back with another cushion, this time the Three Hearts Cushion that I have done using Sizzix dies .

My cushion is 13" x 13"

This technique is used to in scrapbooking and I wanted to do a chance on fabric.

First I chose my fabrics, some  in red ,pink and white on a dark linen I could get in our last trip to IKEA.

Sew some little scraps changing the size of everyone .

I  saw it can fit the die and press the fusible web on the back of the block before using the Big Shot machine.

Then only  cut  and prepared the back of the cushion as usually.

I centered  the three hearts on the linen and pinned

It was the time to applicate the hearts with my sewing machine with red thread.

And with the two parts finished  I sew  around right side together.

Now , I ´ve got a confortable cushion for my chair  and spent time sewing in my pation.

Hola a todo el mundo, hoy regreso con otro  cojín , esta vez “ Tres corazones “ que he confeccionado  usando los troqueles de Sizzix.

 Mi cojín tiene una medida de 33cm x 33cm

Esta técnica se usa también en scrapbooking and quería probar  a hacerlo sobre tela.

35.5 cm x 24cm de tela de florecitas para la trasera

Primero elegí mis telas , algunas en rojos , rosas y blancos que irían sobre un lino  gris oscuro que compré en IKEA

Cosí algunos trozos cambiando el tamaño de cada uno.

Comprobé  la medida para el troquel de corazones y pegué con la plancha la entretela.

Después corté los corazones con el troquel y preparé la trasera del cojín como es habitual.

Centré los corazones  con alfileres y apliqué a máquina con hilo rojo sobe el cuadrado de lino.

Monté el cojín dejando derecho con derecho y cosí alrededor.

Ahora tengo un cómodo cojín para mi silla y  estar cosiendo en el patio.

A very big vintage pincushion

Spring is coming again  to my sewing  room and  I have  given a new opportunity to the Primitive Heart Die as I used in my last post , the fabric cover for my patchwork folder where I have all my Sizzix projects.

This time I have done a very big pincushion that is colorful and full of vintage air  with this print of Lecien that I love.

Flower Sugar fabric by Lecien ( white background with little roses and red with dots):

Two circles of each one ( 9.5 " diameter ). I used an usual big plate for template. Give 1/2 " seam around

White fabric for the middle sized hearts

Take a look and let the pictures talk by themselves.

I used the same method that I told you here to do the fabric heart using the die, be careful to center the rose in the heart if you are going to use the same fabric. Fusible web is on the back .

I used the middle size heart this time.

I tried to centre  the five hearts around the big  rose in the middle of the big circle  and sew around two times doing the applique.

When you have done the round pincushion , fit with stuff and finish sewing by hand.

Press

Now start down with the perle thread in the needle  and go up through inside the pincushion until you go face up. Turn round and go down again. Repeat for four time more and it will be a thread between each heart.

Finish with a button up and down.

Now I can enjoy a nice pincushion  matching with my patchwork folder.

You can want to change the size of your pincushion if you want , using the smaller hearts or the biggest.

De nuevo la primavera llega a mi habitación de costura. Le he vuelto a dar una nueva oportunidad al troquel de corazones que usé en mi ultimo artículo, la funda en tela para mi archivador donde tengo todos los proyectos de Sizzix. Esta vez he hecho un acerico grande  , alegre y con cierto aire vintage gracias a las telas y a la tira bordada que hay alrededor. 


 Materiales:

 Tela Flower Sugar de Lecien ( fondo blanco con rosa pequeña y roja con lunares):
Dos círculos de cada una ( diámetro de 24 cm) Usé un plato llano grande como plantilla.Añade medio cm de costura.
Tela de fondo blanca para los corazones
80 cm de tira bordada
1.40 cm de hilo perlé grueso
Guata para relleno
Dos botones
Entretela de doble cara para pegar con plancha.  


Echa un vistazo y deja que la fotos hablen por sí solas.
Utilicé el mismo método que te conté aquí para cortar los corazones con la troqueladora colocando la entretela por el revés.Ten cuidado y centra  las rosas si usas la misma tela .Intenté centar los cinco corazones alrededor de la rosa grande que había en el círculo de tela roja. Hice el aplicado cosiendo dos veces cada uno. Cuando hayas acabado de coser el acerico  del revés , con la tira bordada por alrededor, dale la vuelta , rellena y remata a mano y plancha. Luego haz la separaciones usando el hilo de perlé . Empieza desde abajo ,  en el centro , atravesando el acerico relleno con la aguja e hilo y sube hacia arriba. Rodea , entre cada uno de los corazones y vuelve a repetir hasta que hayas completado las cinco veces. Remata y cose un botón arriba y abajo. Yo aproveché lo que me quedó del mismo hilo de perlé. Ahora ya tengo un bonito acerico grande que hace juego con mi carpeta.Puedes variar el tamaño si quieres,usando el corazón más pequeño o más grande.

A fabric cover for my patchwork folder

Thanks  this new adventures with Sizzix , I needed something to schedule my projects. I love notebooks and then I decided to try one of the applique dies . 

Heart is one of my favourite , so I planned a fabric cover for a folder I had bought for it.

I´m in love with  Lecien prints, they are so romantic and so beautiful that I couldn ´t  resist to one of the last collections called " Flower Sugar" , do you know it ? 

I choose the white and the blue one with some of my linen to make my fabric cover.

I have took the size of my binder before. You must to adjust your size to yours. All the measures I give you  include seams.
First  sew the linen with the white fabric and  lay  the lace between them. Press and  handwrite the message with Frixion pen ( for the love of patchwork  ) . Onto the wrong side put the batting and do the   quilting. You can clean the pen just iroining over it.

Now go for the heart using the Big Shot machine and the Heart die. I have chose the big one. Don´t forget to iron the double fusible on the back  side of the blue fabric. Center the heart using a template before and pin.

Cut and iron on the linen. 

 Sew around the heart with the same colour thread  you used in the quilting . The ribbon must be down before sewing.
On the right side of the linen stitch a fabric strip  ( 1"x 11" ) with a decorative stitch. This will be in the left flat.
Take a look to the pictures to  make an idea.

Sew the blue fabric with the other white and you will have the lining .

Lay right side together, lining and cover , and sew around  leaving without sewing a little.

Turn the right side and finish by hand.

Do the flats  ( 2" width each one) and sew top and bottom

Now do the finishing adding the ribbon to close and tie and maybe some button if you want. 

And here it is my practical journal where I do my plans, ideas , take notes, pics of the finished projects , and everything  just done with Sizzix Dies !!!!

Gracias a esta nueva aventura con Sizzix, me vi en la necesidad de tener algo para programar mis proyectos. Ya sabéis que me  encantan los cuadernos y decidí probar con uno de mis troqueles preferidos, el corazones primitivos, en una funda para un archivador que había comprado.

Me encantan las telas de Lecien , siempre con este toque romántico y tan bonito. No pude resistirme a una de sus últimas colecciones llamada “ Flower Sugar “, ¿la conoces ?

Elegí dos de sus telas , una con el fondo en blanco  y otra en azul. Ambas tienen unos estampados preciosos de rosas.

Un archivador pequeño, el mío mide 22cm x 24.5cm comprado en Lecrerc

Antes de empezar toma las medidas de tu archivador para ajustar. Las que yo indico ya  llevan incluídas las costuras.

Primero cose el lino con la tela blanca , colocando en un extremo la puntilla entre ambas telas , puedes ayudarte de alfileres. Plancha por el derecho y escribe a mano  en el lino tu mensaje con el boli.Coloca la guata debajo dejando el derecho escrito listo para bordar. Puedes sujetar con alfileres. 

Luego haz el bordado. El mío ha sido libre. La marca desaparecerá con la plancha. 

Ahora haz el corazón con la máquina Big Shot y el troquel del corazón, en este caso el grande. Pon la entretela de doble cara por el revés, situa una plantilla de corazón en papel para centrar la flor.

Corta y plánchalo  sober el lino. Borda alrededor habiendo colocado antes una parte de la cinta que luego cerrará el archivador.

En el lado derecho del lino cose la tira estrecha para adornar y haz una puntada decorativa. Esta parte será la solapa izquierda.

Cose la tela azul con la otra blanca y formarás con las dos  el forro.

Sitúala revés con revés y cose alrededor dejando una parte libre para dar la vuelta y luego rematar a mano.

Dobla hacia el interior para hacer las solapas  ( 5cm  de ancha) Cose toda la parte superior e inferior lo más cerca del borde que puedas.

Termina añadiendo la otra cinta cosida por detrás a mano y sobre la que pondrás un botón.

Coloca los adornos que quieras como algunos botones más o trocito de  cinta.

Y aquí mi práctico cuaderno  para anotar mis planes, ideas, fotos de mis proyectos ,y todos hechos con los troqueles de Sizzix!!

Espero que esta sea una buena manera para tener todos tus proyectos  guardados  en un bonito sitio , listos para trabajar.
