(Almost) Monochromatic Lay Out

Sometimes I like to go a little bit out of my comfort zone to create new things, like this LO I made using grey and yellow as my color palette.

I wanted to make a LO of these selfies with funny faces I made while waiting for someone, and they had these two colors in the background, so I tried to combine them in my LO. 

I have used the Sizzix Frameworks Chevron under the photos, but I have also used my remaining card to create an original mat to my photos. I love this effect!

A veces es me gusta salir un poco de lo que acostumbro a hacer para probar cosas nuevas, como en esta página, en la que he utilizado gris y amarillo como mi paleta de color.

Normalmente no escogería estos colores, pero como mis fotos tenían estos colores de fondo me ha parecido una buena opción... Y la verdad es que aunque no tiene nada de rosa me ha acabado gustando mucho el resultado!

Debajo de las fotos he utilizado el troquel de chevron como base u además he utilizado la cartulina que me ha quedado para crear todo el marco. ¡Me encanta este efecto!

Autumn greetings



Hello Sizzix UK friends! Today I want to share with you some ideas for autumn greeting cards. This upcoming season is full of warm colors and wonderful textures. That's why I decided to use browns, greens and some orange or salmon hues with an emboss twist and a "butterfly effect". 

For my first card I decided to use one of the special background with wooden texture that I receive from very special person - Pete Hughes (thanks a lot, Pete!). I was always under impresion how perfectly he use such patterns. This time, on my 1st layer I put 2 different diecuts: an oldie, but still absolutely fantastic On the Edge Die - Butterflight and one of the Frameworks designs (absolutely love each of them!) - Frameworks Die - Courtyard.

On my second card, in a tag shape, I used large, embossed butterfly as a main decoration. I cut out and emboss it using Bigz Die w/Texture Fades - Layered Butterfly and another interesting paper from Pete - the golden one. It is similar to metallic foil, that' why looks like embossed metal sheet. Amazing, huh?

Witajcie polskojęzyczni fani Sizzix! Dziś chciałabym podzielić się z Wami kilkoma pomysłami na jesienne kartki. Nadchodząca jesień pełna jest ciepłych kolorów i cudownych tekstur. Właśnie dlatego postanowiłam wykorzystać kolory z palety brązów, zieleni, pomarańczy oraz kolory łososiowego wraz z elementami wytłaczanymi oraz motywem motyli.

Jako tło w mojej pierwszej kartce wykorzystałam specjalny gruby i sztywny papier z motywem i teksturą drewna, który otrzymałam od wyjątkowej osoby - jednego z projektantów Sizzix - Pete'a Hughes'a. Zawsze jestem pod wrażeniem z jaką łatwością i perfekcją wykorzystuje on podobne motywy. Tym razem jako pierwszą warstwę w mojej kartce połączyłam wycinanki z 2 różnych wykrojników: nieco starszego, ale wciąż fantastycznego On the Edge Die - Butterflight oraz jednego z wykrojników Frameworks (absolutnie uwielbiam wszystkie wzory z tej serii!) - Frameworks Die - Courtyard.

W przypadku drugiej kartki w kształcie taga, wykorzystałam dużego, embossowanego motyla jako główną dekorację. Wycięłam i wytłoczyłam go za pomocą zestawu wykrojnika oraz foldera do embossingu Bigz Die w/Texture Fades - Layered Butterfly w kolejnym ciekawym tle od Pete'a - tym razem złotym. Tło jest podobne w kolorze i strukturze do metalicznej folii, dlatego tak wspaniale imituje wytłaczaną cienką blachę. Niesamowite, prawda?

Frameworks dies as masks for gold flakes

One of my long time always in my craft room product are any type of gold flakes or faux gold leaf. they add a different kind of metallic effect that not card mirri or shiny would ever do. 

One of my favourite products form the latest releases from Mr. Tim Holtz are the Frameworks dies, dies that are perfect for a lot of different technique. And if you know me, you will know that I love techniques. Frameworks dies make wonderful masks, gap cards and templates. Here is one of those techniques.

I die cut first the Frameworks-Chevron die using white textured card. As usual, I put the textured card facing the foam that will make the textured side the front. Then I took a piece of Stix2 double sided sticky sheet and attached it to a plain card to give it some extra stability, though is not necessary. 

I lifted the remain protective sheet and place over it the Chevron (texture side up). I protected the adhesive placing the protective sheet over it.

I placed on to the biz die from the Big Shot Starter kit but any Bigz die with a bold shape will work. Once die cut, I removed the protective sheet and use the left overs from the Chevron die to fill the one area that looked a bit bare. this in itself is another way to do this technique as you will see bellow.

Then I placed the heart with the sticky side up on a plastic container that holds my gold flakes. Using a scrunchy tool (usually sold on its own as a gold flake tool) I made sure that all sticky areas were covered and that any excess was pulled away and back in the container. On the right photo you can see the effect.

As I mentioned, this technique can be used as well with just the off bits like in the card bellow.

And finally a close up of the golden flakes effect bellow.

I think it is a very elegant way to add some metallics to your work, specially if you mix it up with matte and soft colours. I love it and I hope you try this technique soon!

Gift boxes with butterflies



Hello everyone! It's Karola here with some new inspirations. This time I don't have a card or layout for you, but just an simple idea for small gift wrapping. In Poland and probably most of Eauropean countries, the school year ends very soon. It's opportunity to express gratitude to the teachers for their dedicated time, knowledge, care and support. For this occasion I decided to make pillow boxes as a small gifts wrapping. Creating pillow boxes with Sizzix Movers & Shapers L Die - Pillow Box w/Labels is amazingly easy, just as 1 - 2 -3 and after 5 minutes you have a great base for a beautiful gift packaging. 

I decorated my boxes using die cuts I've made using Sizzix Frameworks Die - Trellis and white cardstock. Butterfly is a very versatile motif to decorating anything you need - it's perfect for any occasion, so I cut out a few butterflies in 2 color options, using butterfly die from Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (Powder Blue & Teal) and decided to create layered embellishment with them. As you can see, I wanted to decorate my butterflies a little bit more and I used hand circle punch to made a few tiny holes in each paper butterfly. This way makes paper die cuts airy and delicate.

Z tej okazji postanowiłam zrobic kilka poduszkowych pudełeczek jako opakowania na maleńkie prezenty, jako wyraz wdzięczności. Tworzenie poduszkowych pudełeczek z wykrojnikiem Sizzix Movers & Shapers L Die - Pillow Box w/Labels jest niesamowicie proste i szybkie, po prostu 1 - 2 -3 i już po pięciu minutach mamy świetna bazę pięknego opakowania prezentu. 

Moje pudełeczka ozdobiłam wycinankami z wykrojnika 659431 Sizzix Frameworks Die - Trellis. Motyle to bardzo uniwersalne motywy, którymi możemy dekorować właściwie wszystko, są doskonałe na każdą okazję. Wycięłam zatem kilka motyli w dwóch opcjach kolorystycznych, wykorzystując wykrojnik z motylem z zestawu startowego maszyny Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (Powder Blue & Teal) i postanowiłam stworzyć z nich warstwową dekorację. Jak widzicie, chcąc dodatkowo ozdobić moje motyle, wykorzystalam dziurkacz - kombinerki, którym zrobiłam trochę maleńkich dziurek w każdym z papierowych motylków. Ten sposób sprawia, że papierowe dodatki, jakie pozyskujemy za pomocą wykrojników stają się lekkie i delikatne.

Jumbo and Tattered Florals for Home Decor projects

One of the most popular Sizzix dies has to be Tattered Florals. They are fantastic as there are four flowers in different sizes and shapes and being a Bigz die means that versatility is warrantied. Loads of us crafters cheered when Tim Holtz released the Jumbo Tattered Florals.

I adore flowers, layering them, using them in different sizes and making them 3D.  That is why I was really looking forward to the opportunity to use the original Tattered Florals and the Jumbo ones. 

There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to assemble the Tattered Florals, but here is a quick reminder.

I die cut four large flowers. Then I made some cuts (clockwise): On one made just a cut, on the second I cut a petal off, on the third one I cut two petals off and finally on the fourth flower I cut three petals or cut in half.
Then I glued each end petals to each other and shaped the ends of the flowers using the Susan's Garden Tool Kit.

To assemble the layers I started with the centre (but you may want to start with the larger layer) rolling up the single petal and then added the other layers of petals. Trim the bottom ends of the flowers to be able to layer the petals closely together. To glue the layers, I used a cold melt glue gun. Quick and strong hold.

I repeat the same process with the largest flower from the original Tattered Florals. And the final results on the right hand side. Top is the Jumbo one and bottom the original Florals, quite a big difference is size.

I did the same with the rest of the flowers in both the Tattered Florals and the Jumbo ones.

All in all, six fine 3D flowers. I attached them to this nice wooden coat hanger, added the leaves using the Jumbo Florals I finished the decorating by adding a die cut Frameworks Courtyard.

Shabby chic cards with Bigz dies



Hello everyone! It's Karola here and today is my turn for bring you some fresh Sizzix inspiration! For today, I created 2 very layered and dimensional shabby chic cards, using Bigz and Frameworks dies and... a cardboard. I just love when my cards are very dimensional and love to create using cardboard. Very often we throw useless cardboard boxes, but today I have for you an idea that will make you collect them!

I decided to build my cards using thick elements with openwork motifs. I cut out patterns using the above-mentioned Bigz and Frameworks dies from the kraft cardboard. Then I painted elements using white gesso to add them a special shabby chic look. To add even more texture I used sponge brush. Some of elements have an only inked edges (leaves). After drying all elements, you can decorate your cards as you want. I made it layered, because I love when the cards are thick and dimensional.

Do dzisiejszego posta przygotowałam dwie, bardzo przestrzenne, warstwowe kartki w stylu shabby chic, do stworzenia których wykorzystałam wykrojniki Bigz i Frameworks oraz... tekturę falistą. Uwielbiam kiedy moje kartki są bardzo przestrzenne a jednocześnie uwielbiam pracować z tekturą, szczególnie z tą z odzysku, ze starego niepotrzebnego kartonu. Zwykle takie bezużyteczne kartony, pudełka wyrzucamy, ale dziś mam dla Was pomysł, który sprawi, że zaczniecie je zbierać!

Zdecydowałam się zbudować kompozycję moich kartek, wykorzystując grube, ażurowe motywy, które wycięłam z tektury falistej za pomocą wyżej wymienionych wykrojników. Następnie pomalowałam część z nich dość niedbale białym gesso, aby nadać im specyficznego stylu shabby chic (przetarcia). Aby nadać nieco więcej tekstury, malowałam elementy za pomocą pędzla gąbkowego. Niektóre z elementów (liście) mają jedynie potuszowane na brązowo brzegi. Po wyschnięciu elementów, można je wykorzystać do kompozycji na kartkach. Ja zaaranżowałam je warstwowo, ponieważ lubię kiedy moje kartki są grube i przestrzenne.

Felt die cut accents on your cards!

Hello everyone! Karola here with new card inspiration created using our fantastic Sizzix dies. Today I would share with you a simply idea for adding texture and some felt or fabric accents to our cards. 

As you probably know, lots of Sizzix dies are designed to cut not only the paper or cardstock, but also a wide range of thicker materials, such as: cardboard, EVA foam, felt, fabric, magnet, leather etc... This kind of dies are: Bigz, Frameworks, Originals, Movers & Shapers, On The Edge and more. In my last card I used a sheet of polyester felt to cut out lattice pattern using Frameworks Die - Lattice. Framework dies are designed in a very useful way, it's means that you can use the cut outs as repeating pattern. I think this way is amazing, because you can combine a few of cut outs into one fantastic background. This time I cut out lattice pattern from the felt 2 times, then I added a stitch using a sewing machine, adding at the same time some more texture and interesting look to my card.

1. Prepare a sheet of polyester felt (acrylic felt may be too soft and not good for this project). Cut out 2 pieces of lattice using Sizzix Frameworks Die - Lattice.
2. Apply liquid glue on the cut outs. Do it carefully, remembering not to add too much glue.
3. Adhere two pieces of felt lattice cut outs onto your card background (not card base!). I  have chosen kraft cardstock (13 x 13 cm) as a card background and white cardstock on my card base (folded card size: 14 x 14 cm). Put lattice felt pieces as a repeating pattern on the centre of your card. 
4. Sew the pattern using straight stitch and don't hurry with it. Make it carrefully and slowly, following the felt lattice pattern. You can use a sewing machine as I did or use thread and needle to make it by hand.
5. Sew the whole lattice pattern and - if you want - add more stitches. I added 2 straight stitches on the left and the right side of my card background.
6. An additional idea: If you like fussy cutting - like me - you can use the Susan's Garden Tool Kit for modeling your fussy cut outs, such as flowers or leaves. The tools from this amazing kit are very helpful not only while working with Susan's Garden dies, but also in lots of other creations, just try it!
7. Decorate your card as you want, trying not to hide your felt pattern too much. As you can see, I added also a butterfly and the heart, that I cut out from the same sheet of felt and using dies included in Big Shot Starter Kit (Powder Blue & Teal).

Witam serdecznie polskojęzycznych fanów Sizzix! Dziś przynoszę ze sobą kolejną kartkową inspirację z wykorzystaniem fantastycznych wykrojników Sizzix! Moja dzisiejsza praca to pomysł na dodanie ciekawej tekstury do kartki, wykorzystując kawałki filcu lub tkaniny. 

Jak prawdopodobnie wiecie, Sizzix ma w swojej ofercie mnóstwo wykrojników, którymi można wycinać nie tylko papier i brystol, ale także szeroką gamę grubszych materiałów, takich jak: filc, tkanina, pianka, tektura falista, arkusze magnetycznej folii, skóra itp.

Wykrojniki tego typu to m.in: Bigz, Frameworks, Originals, Movers & Shapers, On The Edge. W mojej dzisiejszej kartce wykorzystałam arkusz poliestrowego filcu oraz wykrojnik Frameworks Die - Lattice aby pozyskać filcową, ażurową siateczkę. Wykrojniki Frameworks zostały zaprojektowane w bardzo użyteczny sposób, to znaczy, że wzór można wyciąć kilkukrotnie i połączyć w jedno większe tło. Uważam, że to naprawdę świetny sposób na tworzenie pięknych, sporych ażurowych teł. Tym razem wycięłam wzór siateczki z filcu dwukrotnie, połączyłam 2 części w jedno tło, a następnie wzór przeszyłam za pomocą maszyny do szycia, dodając w ten sposób nieco więcej tekstury i ciekawego akcentu do mojej kartki.

1. Przygotuj arkusz filcu poliestrowego. Filc akrylowy mógły okazać się zbyt miękki i niezbyt dobry do tego projektu - mógłby się rwać). Wytnij dwukrotnie wzór siatki za pomocą wykrojnika Frameworks Die - Lattice.
2. Nałóż płynny klej na wyciętą filcową siatkę. Staraj się robić to ostrożnie i pamiętaj aby nie dodawać zbyt dużo kleju. 
3. Przyklej dwie części siatki na tło kartki (nie na bazę kartki!) umiejscawiając siatkę po środku tła i łącząc ze sobą dwie części w jedno spójne tło. Ja wybrałam brystol typu kraft na tło mojej kartki (13 x 13 cm) oraz biały brystol na bazę kartki (wymiary złożonej kartki: 14 x 14 cm).
4. Przeszyj filcowy wzór ściegiem prostym i absolutnie nie spiesz się podczas tej czynności. Szyj po wzorze ostrożnie i powoli. Możesz użyć maszyny do szycia, tak jak ja, lub przeszyć wzór ręcznie igłą i nitką. 
5. Przeszyj cały wzór oraz - jeśli masz ochotę - dodaj więcej ściegów. Ja dodałam podwójny prosty ścieg z dwóch stron mojej kartki. 
6. Dodatkowy pomysł: jesli tak jak ja, lubisz precyzyjnie wycinane elementy z papieru, możesz użyć narzędzi z zestawu Susan's Garden Tool Kit  do wymodelowania swoich wycinanek, takich jak kwiatki i liście. Narzędzia z tego zestawu są bardzo przydatne, nie tylko podczas tworzenia przestrzennych kwiatków z serii Susan's Garden, lecz także w innych projektach - po prostu spróbujcie! 
7. Udekoruj swoją kartkę tak jak chcesz, starając się jednak niezbyt mocno zakrywać filcowy wzór. Jak widzicie, ja dodałam jeszcze kilka filcowych akcentów - motyla i serce wycięte za pomocą wykrojników dołączonych do zestawu startowego maszyny Big Shot - Sizzix Big Shot Starter Kit (Powder Blue & Teal).

How to do:

Die cut Frameworks in patterened paper with Sizzix Frameworks Die - Courtyard
Cut out a piece of patterned paper and glue it on the backside of the main card.
Cut out a card 15x30 cm. Die cut the edge with  Sizzix Frameworks Die - Chevron
Distress all the edges with Distress ink Pad - Walnut Stain. Fold the card to a pocket.
Glue patterned paper on the backside of the card with greenery and a label.

Die cut a frame in Grungepaper with Sizzix Framelits Die Set 4PK - Labels, Ornate

Glue Framework and frame to the front with 3D foam. Glue greenry and a bow with a button in front.

Distress the tag with Distress ink Pad - Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint, water...and Stencils.
Die cut the edge with Sizzix Frameworks Die - Chevron

Stans ut Frameworks i mønsterark med Sizzix Frameworks Die - Courtyard
Skjær et stykke mønsterark og lim det på baksiden av panelet. 
Skjær ut et kort i str. 15x30 cm. Stans ut kanten med  Sizzix Frameworks Die - Chevron
Distress alle kantene med Distress ink Pad - Walnut Stain. Fold  kortet til en lomme.
Lim mønsterark på baksiden av kortet og sett på en gren og "label".

Stans ut ramme i Grungepaper med Sizzix Framelits Die Set 4PK - Labels, Ornate
Mal rammen med Distress Crackle Paint - Picket Fence. La det tørke.
Lim Framework og ramme i front med 3D puter. Lim en gren sammen med en sløyfe og knapp i front.
